Duties
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments in a family medicine practice.
- Take and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and oxygen saturation levels.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort throughout their visit.
- Collect specimens for laboratory testing, perform phlebotomy (blood draws), and prepare samples for analysis while adhering to safety protocols.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), ensuring precise documentation of patient histories, diagnoses (including ICD coding), medications, and treatment plans.
- Support medical administrative tasks such as patient intake, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and maintaining organized medical files.
- Assist with medication administration under supervision and support emergency procedures like Basic Life Support (BLS) when necessary.
- Operate diagnostic equipment such as EKG machines.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of family medicine protocols.
- Proven experience in family medicine, internal medicine, or general practices.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology to support accurate patient assessments and documentation.
- Skilled in using EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently and securely.
- Competent in performing phlebotomy procedures and specimen collection with precision.
- Excellent patient service skills—empathetic communication, intake management, and vital signs monitoring—to foster trust and comfort.
- Ability to handle ICD coding for diagnoses accurately while supporting medication administration processes.
- Experience with X-ray equipment operation or supporting imaging procedures is a plus.
