Overview
The Director of People, Risk & Compliance is a leadership role responsible for building a strong, compliant, and high-performing organization. This role oversees human resources, enterprise risk management, health & safety and regulatory compliance, ensuring the company operates ethically, safely, and in alignment with applicable laws and industry standards.
The ideal candidate is both people-centric and detail-oriented, capable of partnering with executive leadership while proactively identifying and mitigating organizational risk across all company functions and operations.
Key Responsibilities
People & Culture
- Lead and evolve the company’s people strategy, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, engagement, and retention.
- Review and analysis current HR policies and programs. Develop and implement HR policies and programs that support a positive, inclusive, and high-accountability culture as needed.
- Provide guidance and coaching to leaders on employee relations, performance issues, disciplinary actions, and workforce planning.
- Oversee compensation, benefits, and workforce compliance programs.
- Support leadership development and succession planning initiatives.
Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate enterprise risks across all operations facilities.
- Review current risk program. Develop and maintain risk management frameworks, internal controls, and reporting mechanisms as needed.
- Partner with operations, safety, legal, and finance teams to manage insurance programs, claims, and risk transfer strategies.
- Lead investigations related to incidents, complaints, or compliance breaches and recommend corrective actions.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, OSHA regulations, building and construction standards, and industry-specific requirements.
- Oversee health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance programs for factory and field operations.
- Maintain company compliance with contractual obligations, certifications, audits, and licensing requirements.
- Develop, implement, and monitor corporate policies, codes of conduct, and ethics programs.
- Serve as a key liaison with legal counsel, regulators, auditors, and external partners.
Leadership & Strategy
- Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team on people, risk, and compliance matters.
- Provide regular reporting to leadership on workforce metrics, compliance status, incidents, and emerging risks.
- Lead and mentor HR, safety, and compliance staff, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Support organizational growth by scaling systems, policies, and processes appropriate for a growth.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, Risk Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in HR leadership, risk management, compliance, or safety, preferably within construction, manufacturing, modular building, or industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, OSHA regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to construction and manufacturing.
- Proven experience leading teams and influencing senior leadership.
- Professional certifications such as SHRM-SCP, SPHR, ARM, CSP, or similar are a plus.
