Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Operating Room / Medical Assistant to support surgical teams in a fast-paced environment. You will play a vital role in providing quality patient care and assisting healthcare professionals in various clinical and administrative tasks. This role is vital for ensuring smooth operative procedures, maintaining sterile conditions, and providing exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of medical procedures and terminology. Prior experience in hospital settings, particularly in ambulatory surgery centers, is highly valued. Duties
- Assist surgical staff by preparing operating rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring aseptic technique is maintained at all times
- Support with data collection related to patient vitals, medical records, and procedural documentation using EMR/EHR
- Assist with monitoring and recording vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and respiration during procedures and after surgery
- Assist with patient positioning, transport, and comfort before, during, and after surgeries
- Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed to prevent cross-contamination
- Aid in specimen handling and labeling for laboratory analysis
- Support with post op wound care under supervision as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care activities and assist with medical record updates
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Perform and assist with performing EKG's, starting IV's, setting up OR, circulating in the OR, sterile processing of surgical instruments, assisting in PACU, rooming post op patients and assisting post op nurse.
- Assist with patient education and provide instructions for at-home care pre and post surgery
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist healthcare providers during examinations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in operating rooms, examination rooms, and medical equipment
Experience
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Previous experience working in an ambulatory surgery center is a plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to surgical procedures
- Proven ability to perform in high-pressure environments
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and data analysis
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as suturing or infection control are advantageous
- Hands-on experience with aseptic techniques, infection prevention protocols, and patient care in hospital or surgical settings
