Role Description The Surgical Assistant role at Ferris del Caribe is a full-time, on-site position based in Miami, FL. The Surgical Assistant supports surgeons and operating room teams before, during, and after procedures, including preparing the operating room, arranging instruments, and ensuring proper sterilization of equipment and supplies. Daily responsibilities include assisting with patient positioning, maintaining a sterile field, handling instruments during surgery, and monitoring supplies and equipment for readiness and safety. The role also involves collaborating with nurses, surgeons, and other clinical staff, documenting relevant information, and following established protocols and infection-control standards. The Surgical Assistant is expected to maintain high attention to detail, uphold patient confidentiality, and contribute to a safe and efficient surgical environment.
Qualifications
- Strong operating room knowledge and experience, including familiarity with OR protocols and workflow.
- Proficiency in surgical assisting and surgical technology, including instrument handling and support during procedures.
- Foundational understanding of medicine relevant to surgical care and perioperative patient support.
- Demonstrated skills in sterilization, infection control, and maintaining a clean and safe surgical environment.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant or Surgical Technologist program; certification (e.g., CSA, CST) preferred.
- Prior experience in a surgical or perioperative setting, ideally in a hospital, clinic, or ambulatory surgery center.
