Argus seeks a driven and resourceful individual to join Argus Americas Asphalt, a weekly market report featuring asphalt pricing and market news and analysis.
This position will work closely with the Americas Asphalt Editor and other global asphalt teams to produce high quality editorial content. You will cover asphalt weekly price assessments; write interesting, analytical market commentaries; and produce in-depth news coverage to appear online and in the weekly Americas Asphalt report.
You will be responsible for data collection, databasing, and publication of key trade data. You will also be responsible for maintaining and expanding the contact base and attending and covering conferences, with the opportunity build a network of sources across North and South America.
This represents an exciting opportunity to cover an established but complex oil market and deliver high-profile news within the industry. Collaboration with other editorial teams, data and production teams, and commercial departments at Argus is also a frequent occurrence.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer who can work both independently and collaboratively on a small team. The ability to identify trends within asphalt and related markets is also critical. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys and excels in relationship building, has genuine curiosity about the market, and has strong communication skills. This person may also be asked to step in to represent Argus and/or produce the report when the editor is unavailable.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 9am-6pm CST. Earlier or later hours, or weekend hours, may be expected on occasion.
Travel
5-10% is expected for this position.

- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, economics, business, geography or relevant field.
- Proven ability to identify and write industry-relevant news/analysis in a timely manner.
- Excellent writing, grammar and quantitative skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process).
- Ability to use data in generating stories and analysis is preferred, while a willingness to learn is essential.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop new contacts and build/maintain rapport among existing contacts.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work well on a small team.
- Background or prior experience in oil markets, energy journalism, and/or government policy is useful but not essential.
- A minimum of two years of prior experience with commodity markets is preferred but not required.
- Spanish proficiency preferred but not required.
- Public speaking and presentation skills are helpful but not required.
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US.
- Monitor and assess asphalt markets in the US, Latin America and Canada to produce weekly price assessments, news, insightful analysis and reports.
- Curate data and maintain and analyse existing data series to inform coverage. Develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis.
- Adhere to rigorous compliance standards.
- Coordinate regular interaction and meetings with key industry participants, including traders, brokers, refiners and other market leaders to build relationships and gather news.
- Develop an understanding of relevant commodity markets, working with other Argus teams to produce joint content.
- Assist with weekly production tasks for Argus Americas Asphalt report and provide backup for teammates when they are out.
- Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts and represent Argus in the industry.
- Contribute to external presentations and/or special projects as needed.
