What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ecommerce Director (IT) position at Arett Sales?
E-Commerce IT Director (Amazon / Walmart / Home Depot / Wayfair)
This is a technical, IT, and data-driven operations role — not a marketing position. Candidates with a marketing-only background will not be considered.
About Arett Sales
Arett Sales is a 75-year-old, fourth-generation, family-owned distribution company with a family-style culture built on high trust, direct communication, and a team-first mindset. We operate across both 1P and 3P e-commerce channels, with our core business servicing the independent retailer.
We have built a strong foundation in electronic order management with EDI/API connections, automated order flows, and internal automation tools already in place. We have the infrastructure, the systems, and the support teams. Now we need a senior technical e-commerce leader to own channel performance at the Director level, drive sales growth across every channel, develop the team beneath them, and build something meaningful.
This is a role where proven results earn top compensation. You will report directly to the EVP with dedicated support from Customer Service, Finance, and our internal advertising agency.
The Role
The E-Commerce IT Director is a senior leadership position built for a proven operator who can lead from the front. You are not just responsible for strategy — you are responsible for execution, team performance, and results. You will own the full e-commerce channel portfolio across Amazon 1P/3P, Walmart Marketplace, Home Depot, Wayfair, and Lowe’s 1P/Marketplace, and will directly manage the E-Commerce Manager and their team.
This is a hands-on, systems-and-data role. You will be in the portals, in the data, and in the platforms daily. You bring the technical depth to identify issues before they impact revenue, the analytical rigor to own margin and pricing decisions, and the leadership presence to hold a team accountable to a high standard of performance.
You operate with an AI-first, automation/database mindset. You are not learning these tools — you are using them today, building with them, and driving continuous improvement across every workflow you touch.
This Role Is NOT For
- Candidates with a marketing-only background — this is a technical, data-driven IT operations role.
- Candidates who prefer to delegate rather than execute hands-on in systems and data daily.
- Anyone who is not actively using AI tools in their current workflow.
- Candidates who prefer traditional, manual workflows and are not eager to build with AI and automation.
- Candidates who do not reside within commuting distance of Pennsauken, NJ — no relocation package is available.
Time Allocation (Expected):
- ~70% hands-on execution: portal management, pricing, chargeback resolution, catalog data quality, compliance, and channel performance.
- ~30% leadership, automation development, and systems building — working directly with the EVP and internal AI automation specialist.
What You’ll Own
1) Platform Operations & Channel Management
- Daily oversight across Amazon Vendor Central (1P), Amazon Seller Central (3P), Walmart Marketplace, Home Depot, Wayfair, and Lowe’s 1P/Marketplace.
- Own API order flow dashboard and all channel portals end to end.
- Manage exclusive e-commerce brands and internal manufacturing company e-commerce offerings.
2) Compliance, Platform Health & Risk Detection
- Proactively monitor and identify platform risks: listing/content compliance, suppressions, taxonomy/attribute gaps, feed/integration mismatches, and portal issues.
- Track policy and program changes that could affect sales, eligibility, or profitability across all channels.
- Identify and resolve problems before they impact revenue.
3) Sales Growth, Pricing, Profitability & Go-Forward Strategy
- Execute pricing updates within EVP-approved guidelines and own net margin analysis by SKU and channel.
- Turn data insights into clear, actionable go-forward recommendations: what to change, why, expected impact, and risk.
- Identify margin expansion opportunities, leakage drivers, and corrective actions at a channel and SKU level.
4) Catalog Enablement & Content Deployment
- Own catalog data quality across all channels: SKU mapping, pack logic, attributes, variation structure, suppressions, and listing accuracy.
- Partner with the internal advertising agency to ensure photography and creative is deployed correctly and optimized for conversion.
- Coordinate effectively across Finance, Customer Service, Marketing, EDI, and leadership.
5) AI, Automation & Systems Development
- Use AI tools daily to increase throughput and quality across analysis, documentation, SOPs, and workflow improvements.
- Build and maintain AI-assisted workflows and agents to automate recurring tasks: exception reporting, anomaly detection, data QA, and investigation acceleration.
- Continuously improve systems — test, iterate, and scale what works.
6) Team Leadership & Operating Cadence
- Directly manage and develop the E-Commerce Manager, E-Commerce Assistant, and Marketing Assistant — setting clear expectations, reviewing performance, and fostering growth.
- Manage all deadlines across catalog reviews, item load, price increases, and channel compliance.
- Standardize go-to-market strategy across channels to ensure transparency, accountability, and readiness for future automation.
- Coordinate across the internal EDI team, external API developers, and internal advertising agency.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 7 years of e-commerce experience with proven, measurable sales growth across major channels (Amazon, Walmart, Wayfair, Home Depot, or Lowe’s).
- Data is king mindset. Extreme proficiency in data manipulation and reporting: combining, aggregating, validating, and producing decision-ready outputs at speed.
- Expert-level Excel with large datasets (aggregation, validation, pivot tables, decision-ready outputs).
- Direct, hands-on experience inside vendor and seller portals — chargebacks, compliance rules, taxonomy, feed management.
- Working knowledge of EDI and API order flows; ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with EDI and API teams.
- Daily, active use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar) in current or prior role — not occasional use.
- Experience with Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Codex, or VS Code required — this signals toolset alignment with company leadership.
- Demonstrated people management experience — ability to lead, develop, and hold a team accountable to high performance standards.
- Execution-first mentality — you ship outputs and iterate quickly, not just strategies and decks.
- Experience sourcing and managing freelancers and external resources as needed.
- Team-first attitude and ability to thrive in a high-trust, collaborative, family-style culture.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with marketplace data exports, API dashboards, and structured data systems in enterprise environments.
- Background in automation scripting or no-code/low-code workflow tools.
- Preferred experience and strong interest in: Microsoft Excel, AI agents, AI automation, chatbot integration, and Visual Studio Code (Claude Code).
- Experience in alternative selling channels: TikTok Shop, Facebook Marketplace, Instagram.
- Category familiarity: lawn & garden, home, seasonal, or holiday products.

- Hybrid: 2 days in-office (Pennsauken, NJ), 3 days remote.
- Fully remote may be considered for exceptional, proven candidates.
