What are the responsibilities and job description for the AI & Automation Specialist – Ecommerce & Operations position at Arett Sales?
Arett Sales Corporation is a 75-year-old family-owned lawn and garden distribution company. We're in the middle of a company-wide transformation — embedding AI, automation, and modern data infrastructure into every corner of our business.
We're hiring an AI & Automation Specialist – Ecommerce & Operations to sit at the intersection of ecommerce marketplace execution, data analytics, and cross-departmental automation. This isn't a "build it and hand it off" role, and it isn't a heads-down listings management role either. You'll do both — managing day-to-day marketplace operations while identifying friction points across the business and building the tools to fix them.
This is a rare opportunity: the scope of a startup with the stability of a multi-generational family business. In a single month you might manage catalog health across six major platforms, automate a chargeback dispute workflow, set up an MCP server connecting our ERP to Claude, and build a Power Automate flow that saves a team member two hours a day.
This is an execution and analytics-focused role — not a marketing or strategy position.
Why Join Arett Sales
You won't be siloed. This role offers real ownership over both operational execution and the tools that power it. You'll work directly with leadership, have visibility across the entire business, and have the opportunity to meaningfully change how a 75-year-old company operates — with the stability of a family business and the energy of a transformation already in motion.
What You'll Do
Marketplace Operations
- Manage daily operations across Amazon Vendor Central, Seller Central, Walmart Marketplace, Wayfair, Home Depot, Lowe's, and BestBuy
- Maintain catalog health, product listings, attributes, and variations
- Resolve listing suppressions, platform errors, and marketplace tickets
- Monitor inventory, pricing updates, and channel performance across all platforms
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Analyze SKU and channel performance using Excel, SQL queries, and marketplace dashboards
- Build and maintain reporting pipelines that surface actionable insights for E-Commerce, Finance, and Purchasing
- Connect and query internal servers, ERP/S2K exports, and cloud data sources to support inventory, pricing, and sales reporting
- Use data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities across channels and product categories
AI & Workflow Automation
- Identify, design, and deploy AI-powered automations across departments including ecommerce, purchasing, warehouse operations, and sales support
- Build and maintain integrations between cloud-hosted databases, MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, and AI platforms such as Claude, OpenAI, and local LLMs to create intelligent, context-aware workflows
- Develop Python-based scripts and tools for data processing, report generation, and operational analysis
- Build and maintain API connections to marketplace platforms, internal tools, and third-party data sources to streamline data flow and reduce manual effort
- Work within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Power Automate, SharePoint, Outlook) to streamline communication and document workflows
- Maintain a library of reusable automation "skills" with clear documentation and version history
Departmental Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Partner with the Finance Department to automate and improve chargeback reconciliation, invoice matching, and cost reporting workflows
- Collaborate with the Purchasing Department to align inventory data, improve order accuracy, and reduce fulfillment gaps through automated alerts and shared dashboards
- Work with the E-Commerce Department to identify, design, and implement process improvements that reduce manual effort and improve platform performance
- Collaborating directly with department leads to document existing processes, identify bottlenecks, and propose and build solutions
- Serve as an internal resource for identifying automation opportunities across teams and helping staff adopt more efficient, data-connected workflows
Who Should NOT Apply
This role is not a fit for candidates who:
- Have marketing-only backgrounds (social media, branding, creative, ad management)
- Are seeking strategy, management, or leadership roles rather than execution
- Do not have direct marketplace platform experience
- Are uncomfortable working daily in SQL, APIs, Python, or data systems
- Prefer delegating work instead of personally managing listings, data pipelines, and automation builds
- Have no experience with AI tools or workflow automation
- Are not interested in cross-departmental collaboration and process improvement
What We're Looking For
Required
- 2 years hands-on e-commerce marketplace operations experience (Amazon Vendor Central, Seller Central, Walmart Marketplace, Wayfair, Home Depot, or Lowe's)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, large datasets)
- Proficiency in SQL for querying databases, building reports, and supporting data analysis
- Hands-on experience with Python for automation, data manipulation, and API integrations
- Experience with APIs (REST/JSON) for connecting platforms, automating data exchange, or building integrations
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar) to improve productivity, automate workflows, or enhance data operations
- Experience building or managing workflow automations (Zapier, Make, Power Automate, Python scripts, or similar)
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments to identify and implement process improvements
- Database literacy — ability to query, structure, and move data between systems (SQL, cloud-hosted databases, ERP exports)
- Strong documentation habits — you write things down so the next person (or the next AI session) can pick up where you left off
- Self-directed work style; comfortable managing operational workloads and automation projects independently
Preferred
- Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar AI-to-system integration frameworks
- Familiarity with connecting internal servers or ERP systems (S2K or similar) to AI platforms
- Experience with EDI systems and supply chain data flows
- Experience with BI or reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
- Background in process documentation or workflow capture systems
- Experience with network infrastructure (Ubiquiti, VLANs, structured cabling)
- Interest in smart building / IoT systems
- Product category experience in lawn & garden, home, seasonal, or outdoor products
- Genuine curiosity about how a business runs end-to-end — you want to understand the warehouse floor as much as the spreadsheet

4-year degree in related field preferred, but experience, knowledge, proven performance, and character take precedence over any specific educational background without those attributes.
Compensation $65,000 /year (Experience based)
Location Hybrid - Southeast New Jersey
Reports to Executive Vice President
Schedule 2-3 days in-office / remaining days remote
Salary : $65,000
