Arena BioWorks, located in Cambridge, MA, is a new biomedical research institute focused on uncovering the mechanisms of human disease to identify opportunities for therapeutic intervention. The Institute's private funding model allows Arena to advance novel therapeutics by forming and supporting biotech companies up to the early clinical/series B stage.
Position Overview:
Arena Bioworks, Gene and Cell Therapy Platform Research Organization (PRO) is seeking a scientist with expertise in pre-clinical R&D with AAV and other viral delivery modalities as applied to extra hepatic (ocular, auditory and other) indications. The ideal candidate would have been part of developing a program from initial concept and in vitro assessments and progressing it through to proof of concept in a large animal model. Experience with designing and evaluating multiple gene editing modalities and on-boarding relevant primary cell line and organ models where available are strongly desired. The ability to set up and manage external collaborations and CRO (contract research organization) relationships to set and achieve program goals will be a significant plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceive, plan and execute discovery stage proof of concept gene editing experiments in cell lines and primary cells
- Lead AAV based proof of concept experimentation for multiple target areas with a strong emphasis on ocular and auditory targets
- Build and integrate a strong network of external CROs to move pre-clinical R&D with AAV delivery modality forward
- On-board relevant organ models to assess gene editing technologies as relevant to the disease areas
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7-10 years industry experience working in Gene editing therapeutics development
- Knowledge of AAV and other viral delivery systems
- Knowledge of multiple editing modalities
