Job Description: The Part-Time transit driver is responsible for operating a multi-Passenger motor vehicle, transporting people on an established route. The daily activities involve skilled and safe operation of a car, van, or small bus transporting passengers in a professional manner. These activities also include assisting passengers with entry and exit of the vehicle, which is deemed necessary for wheelchair bound individuals.
Duties and Responsibilities: Employees must have knowledge of proper operation of assigned vehicle including but not limited to, safe; defensive driving techniques, traffic laws and regulations, proper loading procedures and the required ability to maintain operational records. Duties include continued traffic monitoring while safely maneuvering the vehicle. Daily operation is completed independently and governed by DOT traffic rules and regulations. Each employee is reviewed to determine timeliness to destinations, accuracy of records, daily vehicle inspection and safe operation. Each employee must safely adjust their drive ability, rate of speed, and safety of the vehicle due to weather conditions. Employee must be able to safely push and pull up to 600 lbs. in assistance with maneuvering wheelchair.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. 21 Years of age, Valid North Carolina Driver’s license. The ability to read and write. Ability to complete and pass any certifications and training requirements as a condition of employment. Required passing of Department of transportation drug screening and Criminal Record check.
Shift Times Vary: Can start as early as 4:00AM, Shift ends as late as 5:30PM
CDL with P Endorsement starting pay: $17.00 per hour.
