Job Description

You must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or a G.E. D.

You will be responsible for greeting parents, supervising children, teaching learning activities, leading arts and crafts projects, group games, circle time, active paly and making sure everyone has a good time. Your responsibilities also include learning and following all Department of Human Services (DHS) policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

· Approach parents with a smile and offer assistance

· Immediately help the supervisor or another teacher supervise the children when needed

· Initiate group activities and games with children

· Periodically clean up the child care classroom, putting away toys and supplies, as needed

· Wash children’s hands before and after every change or bathroom trip and after every snack and meal.

· Lead group games, craft projects, active play, story time, circle time, etc.

· Check any child in diapers every hour, change right away, as needed

· Immediately log: injuries, information on daily sheets, biting incidents, etc. on forms provided

· Make sure you are aware of parents when signing children in and out the Center

· Have the responsibility of keeping the room appearance, clean and neat, at all times

· Have the responsibility of keeping the children supervised, kept safe and reasonably clean

· Letting the Director or Supervisor in charge know of any inconsistencies with the program or another staff member

· Let the Director or Supervisor in charge know if you have any ideas for improvement

Essential Functions (Job Requirements)

You must be able to perform the following functions to be considered for employment as a staff member of the Center. Please read this section carefully and indicate on your application if you are able to perform the following functions:

· Must be able to lift children onto and off changing tables

· Must be able to remain calm when removing children from dangerous situations such as climbing, etc.

· Must be able to lift children into seats made into tables and in and out of the toddler buggies

· Must know basic first aid and be able to remain calm when tending wounds

· Must be able to actively play with the children on their level. For example: if they are on the floor, you must have the ability and energy to sit on the floor with them.

· Must have the ability to bend over, stand, and move quickly as necessary

· Must speak fluent English, A second language is desirable and welcomed

· Must be willing to change diapers, as needed

· Must be willing work with any age group if needed and to cover breaks for teachers in other classrooms. Must be able to perform the same responsibilities as the regular teacher while in the classroom

· Must be willing to show initiative and be a self-starter

Conduct Policies

· The Center’s staff members are never to use corporal punishment, (spanking, slapping or other physical behavior) or speak harshly to a child

· Staff must never be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances during their shifts

· Staff are to never leave a child unattended for any purpose

· Staff are to always have a firm hand on a child on a changing table

· Staff are to arrive on time and be ready to work their scheduled shifts

· Staff are to clock in and out for their shifts and lunch breaks

· Staff are to notify the Director or Person in Charge when leaving the building for any reason

· Staff are to report any suspected abuse or suspected grooming of a child/children'
