Summary

Arcus has 2 summer internship opportunities available in our Medicinal Chemistry Department, one of the most critical parts of our research engine. We are currently looking for motivated interns with a strong interest in medicinal and organic chemistry.

Responsibilities

• Will be a member of one of our multi-disciplinary discovery teams.
• Responsible for conducting laboratory experiments under the supervision of a department Scientist.
• Expected to learn and maintain good laboratory practices.
• Assist in the synthesis of intermediates and final products, and fully document experimental procedures and compound characterization.
  
  

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least one year of higher education studying chemistry or a related scientific field.
• Have also conducted (although it is not a requirement) research on a synthetic or biological project.
• Must have a highly goal-driven approach and the ability to focus on time-sensitive objectives.
• This intern position is 40 hours per week located on our Hayward, CA Campus
• All applicants must be actively enrolled in an accredited academic program for Fall
  
  

2026.

• As an Arcus intern, you will be employed as a temporary hourly employee.
• Interns will be paid hourly, less payroll deductions and all required tax withholdings.

PhD all in process – remote internship

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
• Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
• Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
• Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
• Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, possibly weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Position may require repetitive motion. WORKING CONDITIONS:
• May require working near blood borne pathogens.
• May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
• Position may at times require the employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
• Employee must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator.
