The selected candidates will work towards becoming acquainted with laboratory techniques/assay and how to apply them in a drug discovery-oriented setting.
Responsibilities
- Cell culture of human and murine primary cells, tissues, or cell lines
- Basic multi-color flow cytometry
- Assaying for soluble proteins using ELISA or Cytokine Bead Arrays or MSD
- Basic cell-based functional assays (e.g. – Western blot and RT-PCR)
- Graphing data and performing basic statistical analysis
- Compose a PowerPoint presentation to communicate study findings and demonstrate learnings over the course of the internship.
- Completing second year of university or higher. Major in Biological Sciences or closely related field.
- Practical or conceptual familiarity with common laboratory techniques (pipetting, cell culture, plate-based assays) is a plus
- Familiarity with and comfort using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
- Ability to rapidly employ new bench techniques and learn data acquisition and analysis software
- Demonstrated track record of success in relevant scientific coursework to date
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Experience in a basic wet-laboratory environment is a plus
- This intern position is 40 hours per week located on our Hayward, CA Campus
- All applicants must be actively enrolled in an accredited academic program for Fall
- As an Arcus intern, you will be employed as a temporary hourly employee.
- Interns will be paid hourly, less payroll deductions and all required tax withholdings.

Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
- Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
- Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
- Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, possibly weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Position may require repetitive motion. WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May require working near blood borne pathogens.
- May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
