MRI Technologist

Summary

Responsible for operating MRI equipment to produce diagnostic imaging, performing a variety of specialized MRI imaging ordered by referring physicians, aide in patient comfort and safety.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnet and related equipment. Produce diagnostic imaging on body parts to help evaluate and diagnose diseases.
• Position patients for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
• Perform MRI safety screenings prior to exam.
• Ensure consent forms are signed prior to exam.
• Insert IV's and inject contrast.
• Evaluate MRI for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure, label appropriate and transmit to PACS.
• Case out correct examination in RPMS and document IV contrast in EMR if performed.
• Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
• Load and operate power injections for contrast media administration.
• Assist with patient flow when not performing MRI duties
• Maintain accurate patient records and enter appropriate chart notes.
• Provide orientation and training to new MRI technologists.
• Provide care for the psychological and physical needs of patients.
• Assist with the education and training of new physicians.
• Complete MRI exams and ensures a report is generated in a timely manner.
• Reviews daily exams have a report in EMR for physician review.
• Maintains appropriate exam protocols and performs a review according to policy.
• Provides oversight/supervision to untrained staff in MRI safety while in the MRI Zones III and IV.
• Take call according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department hours.
• Assess the patient’s condition prior to performing the MRI procedure or administering a contrast media.
• Review proper lab work has been done.
• Practice medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
• Distribute reports to provider in a timely manner.
• Work with limited supervision.
• Complete all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with the outpatient nurses’ station/ER.
• Assist with preventative maintenance on equipment and troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Actively participate in quality-assurance and quality control functions of the department.
• Provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
• Notify department supervisors as appropriate

Education & Experience

• Completion of a 24-month AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
• Minimum of 2 years recent MRI experience preferred.
• Minimum 12-month experience in MRI Breast Imaging preferred
• Minimum 12-month experience in MRI Cardiac Imaging preferred

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Certification/Licensure

• ARRT certification in Radiology
• ARRT certification in MRI
• BLS certification
