What are the responsibilities and job description for the Snowmaker- Daytime Shift position at ARCTARIS SADDLEBACK SKI OPERATIONS LLC?
This is for daytime shifts for the 2025/2026 season. The tentative start date is November 15, 2025.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Set up guns and hoses as directed on the mountain.
- Operate snowmaking equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources.
- Produce quality snow through the use of air, water, and fan equipment.
- Relocate guns and hoses to various areas around the mountain.
- Adjust, turn and move snow guns to maintain snowmaking efficiency.
- Adjust the water and/or air flow to snow guns.
- Change nozzles on snow guns to maintain efficiency.
- Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment including checking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption and diesel fuel systems.
- Maintain all safety barriers, padding and guards around snowmaking equipment.
- Responsible for the safe operation of snowmaking guns and systems on hill and in snowmaking facilities.
- Required to understand and follow all operational procedures as well as the manufacturer’s recommended operating guidelines.
- Be able to follow OSHA and Workplace Safety Standards.
- Be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
- Be able to perform required daily maintenance in adverse conditions on multiple forms of transportation in a safe manner.
- Work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment, high voltage, and high water pressure.
- Work closely with and assist other departments such as Grooming, Ski Patrol, and Lift Operations.
- Test the quality of snow as it is made, report findings and conditions to supervisor.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and during snowstorms.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Have the ability to operate a snowmobile in adverse conditions on rugged terrain.
- Self-motivated and able to satisfactorily perform tasks without supervision.
- Able to operate snowmaking equipment safely.
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
- Good organizational and mechanical skills.
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
- Basic hand tool knowledge.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License
Physical Demands:
- Work outside in an extreme cold environment for 12-hour shifts.
- Lift up to 60 pounds.
- Walk on snowy and icy slopes at various inclines, at times in total darkness.
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell, talk and hear.
- Specific visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
- The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
- The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
