Job Description

The Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) is a direct report to the Executive Vice President and President, Arconic Rolled Products North America. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing strategies and programs that ensure workplace safety, environmental compliance and regulatory adherence for the organization. The position requires strategic vision and hands-on implementation to build world-class EHS performance based on a strong safety culture. This position will work closely with various functions and facilities to develop, implement and sustain EHS programs, policies and procedures that deliver the required performance.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

EHS Functional Leadership:

  • Partners with senior leadership to ensure EHS strategies are aligned with business and corporate needs.
  • Delivers strong leadership within the EHS function and with key stakeholders establishing a common purpose with a focus on performance.
  • Partners to build and develop an EHS team that has the skills, competencies and abilities to meet the current and future needs of the business.
  • Partners, coaches and develops senior leaders to own, drive and deliver fatality prevention actions and improved EHS results year-over-year.
  • Demonstrates the leadership qualities of trust, integrity, courage, clear communication and a bias for action.

Strategy Development and Execution:

  • Develops an EHS strategy that delivers the required EHS performance while supporting business needs and corporate initiatives.
  • Ensures RPNA EHS strategy is cascaded into all levels of the organization, is embedded in local strategies and monitored to ensure effective delivery.

EHS Operational Excellence:

  • Ensures compliance to the Arconic EHS policies and provides expert guidance to all locations.
  • Identifies and ensures the development of RPNA Standards for key EHS programs, oversees their deployment and ensures verification of effectiveness.
  • Delivers impactful risk control and risk mitigation through structured risk analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Continues to lead and enhance our Human Performance strategy and integration process – driving cultural error proofing/reduction techniques across all business functions and disciplines.
  • Drives strategic EHS capital funding management – including best practice sharing and standardization of risk reduction projects and actions to drive the elimination of top EHS hazards and liabilities.
  • Establishes key EHS performance targets for Environment, Health and Safety across the entire organization that drive meaningful continuous improvement while aligned to the needs and abilities of the business and broader Arconic.
  • Maintains a tracking and reporting process for delivery of the agreed EHS performance targets with escalation and reaction mechanisms where needed.
  • Ensures positive performances are recognized and celebrated.
  • Establishes a positive EHS performance culture where delivery of EHS goals, both within the function and across other functions, is the norm.

Compliance Assurance:

  • Ensures RPNA is aware of and compliant to, all applicable EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains surveillance of pending EHS regulations helping to enable an early response.
  • Helps focus on environmental and sustainability needs – improved recycling efforts, landfill and water reduction.
  • Negotiates with EHS governmental agencies (local, state & country specific) – establishing acceptable permitting and regulatory requirements for the business/locations.

Occupational Health:

  • Oversees business unit wide Occupational Health services that focus on employee health, medical accommodations, return to work and employee wellness; supporting both the employee and the business.
  • Develops a strategic workers compensation and medical management process and implements best practices and drives toward year-over-year WC case and cost reduction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably within Environmental Sciences or in an engineering discipline.
  • 15 years of EHS experience to include standard concepts, practices and procedures.
  • 10 years of people leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to work through other functions and personnel to deliver on EHS goals while supporting the business.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with business partners and building inclusive partnerships.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and drive new ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to consistently travel to all RPNA locations to provide necessary support and guidance (travel required, minimum 50% of time).
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R.
  • 730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environment Health and Safety from an accredited institution.
  • Experience developing, leading and driving EHS programs, systems and processes within a multi-site manufacturing company.
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers and all levels of regulatory agencies.
  • Relevant industry experience.
