What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic position at Arcon Construction, LLC?
We’re not just hiring a mechanic. We’re hiring our next Equipment Manager.
Arcon Construction is a specialty contractor that’s been putting up metal buildings across North Carolina since 1999. We’re growing, and we need a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to keep our fleet running — and to grow into the person who leads our entire equipment operation within the next 12 months.
This isn’t a job where you turn wrenches until you retire. We’ve built a 12-month career path from Heavy Equipment Mechanic to Equipment Manager, with pay increases at every milestone. If you’re the kind of person who wants to run the shop — not just work in it — keep reading.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- $28–$35/hour to start, based on experience
- Clear career path to Equipment Manager ($90K–$100K) within 12 months
- Retirement program with company match
- Stable, family-oriented company — 27 years in business
- A team that actually likes working together
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
We run a mixed fleet — diesel trucks, aerial lifts (boom lifts, scissor lifts, forklifts, man lifts), and heavy construction equipment. You’ll maintain, diagnose, and repair all of it.
- Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy diesel equipment and aerial lifts
- Emergency field repairs when equipment goes down on a job site
- Inspections, service logs, and parts tracking
- Coordinating with our superintendents to prioritize what needs attention first
- As you grow: fleet scheduling, vendor management, budgeting, and leading a small team
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- 3 years working on heavy diesel engines, hydraulics, and/or heavy equipment
- Aerial lift experience (boom lifts, forklifts, scissor lifts) is a big plus
- You diagnose problems methodically — not by throwing parts at it
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record (CDL is a plus, not required)
- You communicate clearly, show up on time, and work well with others
- You’re interested in growing into management — not just staying where you are
HOW TO APPLY:
Apply right here. We review every application. If we think you might be a fit, we’ll call you for a quick 10-minute conversation — no long applications, no hoops to jump through. Then a final interview with our CEO and Equipment Manager.
Arcon Construction is an equal opportunity employer. Background check and drug screen required.
