About The Role

The Industrial Hygienist provides corporate and site-level leadership for occupational health and industrial hygiene programs across Arclin's manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling employee exposures to chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards while ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulatory requirements.

The Industrial Hygienist serves as the company's subject matter expert for occupational exposure management, industrial hygiene monitoring, health risk assessments, and employee health protection programs. This position partners closely with site EHS teams, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Leadership to support Arclin's commitment to a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace.

What You'll Do

Industrial Hygiene Program Leadership

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of industrial hygiene and occupational health programs across Arclin facilities.
  • Establish and maintain corporate standards, policies, procedures, and best practices related to industrial hygiene and employee health protection.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for occupational exposure assessment and control strategies.
  • Provide leadership and consultation to site EHS professionals and plant leadership regarding occupational health risks and regulatory requirements.

Exposure Assessment & Risk Management

  • Conduct and oversee industrial hygiene evaluations including:
    • Air monitoring and exposure assessments
    • Chemical exposure monitoring
    • Noise surveys and hearing conservation programs
    • Respiratory protection programs
    • Ventilation system evaluations
    • Indoor air quality assessments
    • Heat stress assessments
    • Ergonomic evaluations
  • Assess employee exposure to chemicals and manufacturing process hazards, including resins, formaldehyde, solvents, dusts, and other substances encountered in chemical manufacturing operations.
  • Analyze exposure monitoring data and recommend engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to minimize employee health risks.
  • Develop strategies to proactively identify and mitigate occupational health hazards.
Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state occupational health regulations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory changes and communicate impacts to site leadership and EHS teams.
  • Develop and update company policies and procedures to maintain compliance with occupational health regulations.
  • Serve as a technical liaison during regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.

Process & Project Support

  • Provide industrial hygiene expertise for capital projects, process modifications, facility expansions, and Management of Change (MOC) activities.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives by evaluating occupational health risks associated with process changes and chemical introductions.
  • Review facility and process designs to ensure appropriate exposure controls and ventilation systems are incorporated.
  • Evaluate contractor health and safety performance related to occupational exposure risks.

Occupational Health Programs

  • Support occupational health initiatives including:
    • Medical surveillance programs
    • Respirator medical evaluations
    • Hearing conservation programs
    • Occupational illness prevention
    • Exposure-related health monitoring
  • Partner with occupational health providers and medical professionals to ensure program effectiveness and compliance.
Incident Investigation & Auditing

  • Lead investigations involving occupational illnesses, chemical exposure incidents, employee health concerns, and industrial hygiene non-compliance issues.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform industrial hygiene audits, assessments, and compliance reviews across manufacturing facilities.
  • Track performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Training & Employee Engagement

  • Develop and deliver industrial hygiene and occupational health training programs.
  • Educate employees, supervisors, and leadership on occupational health hazards and exposure control strategies.
  • Provide mentoring and technical support to site EHS personnel.
  • Promote employee engagement and awareness of health and exposure prevention initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 10 years of industrial hygiene experience within chemical manufacturing, process manufacturing, petrochemical, pulp and paper, or other industrial operations.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, occupational exposure assessment methodologies, and industrial hygiene principles.
  • Experience conducting workplace exposure monitoring and interpreting sampling data.
  • Experience supporting multi-site industrial operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Safety Sciences, or related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Experience supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated operations.
  • Experience working with formaldehyde, phenolic resins, epoxy resins, industrial chemical processes, and associated occupational health hazards.
  • Experience managing contractor health and safety programs and industrial hygiene projects.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and managing compliance audits.
