Archway Academy is a recovery high school in Houston’s Museum District serving students in grades 8 through 12 who are in recovery from substance use disorder and the mental health challenges that often accompany it.
Our mission is to provide a supportive, sober learning environment that meets the individual educational needs of adolescents in recovery.
Position Summary
Archway Academy is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Grant Specialist to support the organization’s fundraising and institutional advancement efforts.
The Grant Specialist will research funding opportunities, prepare compelling grant proposals, maintain grant records and deadlines, and assist with required reports and supporting documentation. This position will work closely with the Director of Grants and Operations and other members of the Archway Academy team to communicate the organization’s mission, programs, outcomes, and funding needs to foundations and other grant-making organizations.
This is currently an on-site position. The role may transition to a work-from-home or hybrid arrangement in the future based on organizational needs and job performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Research foundations, corporations, government programs, and other potential grant opportunities that align with Archway Academy’s mission and programs
- Write, edit, and submit clear and persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, applications, and supporting materials
- Work with organizational leadership and program staff to gather information, outcomes, financial data, and program details for applications
- Maintain a calendar of application deadlines, reporting requirements, renewals, and other grant-related milestones
- Track the status of submitted, pending, awarded, and declined grant applications
- Prepare required grant reports and stewardship updates for funders
- Maintain accurate and organized grant files, records, correspondence, and supporting documentation
- Review grant guidelines carefully and ensure that all submissions meet funder requirements
- Assist with the development of standard language, program descriptions, organizational information, and other reusable grant materials
- Help identify opportunities to strengthen Archway Academy’s grant strategy and expand its base of institutional support
- Perform other grant-related and administrative duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of professional grant-writing experience
- Demonstrated track record of successful grant applications
- Strong writing, editing, research, and storytelling skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow complex application requirements
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, leadership, community partners, and funders
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive organizational and student information appropriately
- Commitment to Archway Academy’s mission and the young people and families we serve
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience writing grants for nonprofit, educational, behavioral health, recovery, or youth-serving organizations
- Experience preparing grant reports, budgets, and supporting documentation
- Familiarity with foundation research tools, grant databases, or customer relationship management systems
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, nonprofit management, public administration, social sciences, or a related field
