JOB SUMMARY

Appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC), the County Attorney serves at the pleasure of the BoCC. The general purpose of the County Attorney position is to provide legal advice and representation to the BoCC, the Offices of other County Elected Officials (Assessor, Coroner, Clerk and Recorder, Public Trustee, Sheriff, Surveyor, and Treasurer), and the County Manager and all County departments under the County Manager's supervision. The County Attorney appears before federal, state, and county courts; federal and state administrative bodies; County boards and commissions; and attends meetings and gives presentations, both within the County government and in the community.

The County Attorney will work well with the BoCC, the Elected Officials, and the County Manager and staff, being a member of the over-all County team to address issues and provide quality service to the residents of Archuleta County. In addition, the County Attorney should have a sense of humor in the face of adversity and be proactive versus reactive.

The County Attorney represents and provides legal advice to the County Commissioners and County Administrator as well as other staff, boards, commissions, and Elected Officials.

Prepares ordinances and resolutions for adoption by the Commissioners.

Provides opinions regarding general county law issues.

Represents the County in litigation.

Heavily involved in matters pertaining to the implementation and application of land use codes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Strongly preferred to have the ability to practice law in the state of Colorado and be able to demonstrate experience in the areas of Colorado Child Protection, land use and planning commission counsel, elections and public records, personnel, litigation, contract development and review, developer agreements, tribal relations, and gas and oil leasing and exploration.

Salary : $138,882 - $185,693
