What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Handler (Fork Lift Operator) Supervisor position at Architect of the Capitol?
The position is responsible for assigning, directing and reviewing the work of subordinates and evaluating work performance; planning, scheduling and coordinating work operations; and solving problems related to the work performed by the unit. The incumbent also performs nonsupervisory tasks in support of the mission.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position.
- The ability to supervise workers and perform administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates along with performing non-supervisory tasks in support of the unit’s mission.
Responsibilities:
The tour of duty for this position is 9:30 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. This position is emergency essential - depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.
Note: This position requires a valid D.C. or State driver’s license and a Certificate as a Powered Industrial Truck Operator to operate the Forklift in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.178 (l) (6).
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assign duties and evaluate performance.
- Manage the organizational unit's budget and workload and develop performance requirements for subordinates and ensure a mutual understanding of the performance standards. Resolve complaints and grievances.
- Provide employee skills enrichment through job related coaching, mentoring and training. The incumbent will foster a culture of learning, sharing, cooperation and teamwork that improves efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organization.
- Check work in progress and check for compliance with instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines.
- Order and purchase equipment and furniture for special functions set-ups. Responsible for maintenance, storage and repair of furniture and equipment. Purchase necessary inside equipment, such as chairs, tables, easels, podiums, coat racks, etc. and equipment for outside maintenance, such as power washers, bobcats, leaf blowers, etc.
- Set up facilities for special functions. Store, deliver and set up equipment and furniture in rooms used for special functions for meetings.
- Receive and unload designated conveyances, palletizes and stacks material. Examine packaging material for conformity with security requisitions which include proper markings, method of packaging and required shipping protection. Open containers and checks materials received against invoice report or receipt document, comparing short titles, stock numbers, register numbers and quantity. Separate material received in accordance with serviceability conditions and forwards accordingly. Initials accountable receipt document assuming responsibility for accuracy.
- Operate industrial vacuum cleaners, floor polishers and other cleaning tools and equipment to vacuum rugs, clean floors, baseboards and perform other routine cleaning tasks. Load, transport, unload and assembles tools, parts and materials. Load and unloads trash and recycling.
