As a Utility/Packer, you will be responsible for blending ingredients, filling bags or containers with product, and ensuring all packaging meets quality and safety standards. You will also use a computer system to track and label products while keeping your work area clean and organized.
Essential Job Functions:
- Set Up & Pack – Prepare the packing machine with the correct settings and ensure bags, sacks, or boxes are filled and sealed properly.
- Weigh & Label – Check that all products have the correct weight and label information before stacking.
- Tote & Super Sack Handling – Assemble, fill, sample, and transport large totes or super sacks, ensuring they meet weight and labeling requirements.
- Quality & Sampling – Collect product samples, inspect magnets for contamination, and deliver samples to the lab for testing.
- Cleaning & Maintenance – Clean equipment such as bins, conveyors, packers, and dumpers, and complete required documentation.
- Computer System Operation – Use the control panel and jet printers to enter the correct product information.
- Housekeeping & Safety – Follow daily cleaning checklists, keep the work area tidy, and comply with all safety, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and company policies.
- Bulk Trailer Prep – Assist with cleaning, preparing, and loading bulk trailers for shipment.
- Other Duties – Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Plant Manager.
- High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
- 1-3 months of related experience in manufacturing, warehouse work, or food/feed production is helpful.
- Basic Math – Comfortable adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, as well as working with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Reading & Writing – Able to read simple instructions, complete basic paperwork, and communicate effectively with team members.
- Problem-Solving – Ability to follow detailed instructions and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to stand for long periods in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to perform janitorial and general cleaning duties as needed.
