Job Title: Head Cook and Cafeteria Manager
Description:
We are seeking a part-time Head Cook and Cafeteria Manager to join our team at Our Lady, Star of the Sea School in Solomons, Maryland. The selected candidate will work 15-19 hours per week during the 2025-26 school year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation: Prepare and cook food daily as required, following basic recipes and product directions for soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other culinary items.
- Menu Planning and Grocery Shopping: Plan menus and grocery shop as necessary to ensure timely delivery of ingredients.
- Cleaning and Sanitizing: Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment while adhering to all food service regulatory rules and procedures.
- Kitchen Operations: Operate a variety of kitchen equipment to measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables, trim and cut meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use.
- Inventory Management: Select recipes, prepare menu and bakery items, receive inventory, move, and lift foodstuffs and supplies.
- Quality Control: Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment.
Requirements:
- Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Cooking Experience: At least two years' professional cooking experience, including knowledge of food preparation, kitchen equipment, basic nutrition guidelines, food safety rules and guidelines, and food service experience.
- Personal Qualities: Able to multi-task in a busy industrial kitchen, take direction well, work under pressure, and be a team player with the ability to change course quickly.
