The George Washington University Catholic Campus Ministry is hiring a Director of Mission Advancement for the Newman Center to support the advancement of it mission.This position is a combined role with both development and administrative responsibilities. The Director of Mission Advancement is responsible for promoting the mission and vision of the Newman Center at The George Washington University and engaging the community at large, including alumni, staff, faculty, parishes, families, and other stakeholders. This includes maintaining administrative oversight of financial support from donors.Additionally, as Administration Director, responsibilities include overseeing general operations of the Newman Center as they pertain to physical plant, financial accountability, and most non-programmatic activities. Both aspects of the role will include direct program involvement with student leaders who support the development and overall mission of the Newman Center.Note: The time allocation between development/fundraising and administration is approximately 80% fundraising and 20% administration, but may vary depending on organizational needs, special campaigns, or operational priorities.QualificationsPrincipal ExpectationsPracticing Roman Catholic in good standingThorough knowledge and understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church and its traditionsMaintains a personal prayer lifeAble to develop and implement programming that meets fundraising needs consistent with the mission of the Newman CenterAble to find, meet, and follow up with supportersParticipate in weekly meetings with the Chaplain, Campus Ministers, and other development team membersDirector of Mission Advancement(Approximately 80% of the time, year-round)The Director’s primary task is to maintain and increase the current donor base and implement fundraising practices that support the Newman Center. Responsibilities include finding, meeting, and following up with donors and alumni through one-on-one engagements or events that support the development plan. Student leaders who are part of the Finance Committee of GW Catholics work directly with the Director on events and activities that promote the Newman Center and fundraising.Key ResponsibilitiesRaise awareness and support for the ongoing needs, mission, and vision of the Newman CenterAssist the Chaplain in planning the financial vision of the Newman CenterMaintain donor database: tracking donations, updating information, etc.Utilize data entry and analysis skills (or willingness to learn)Generate and implement annual communications (hard copy, digital, social media) per development goals (7 per year)Prepare and distribute personalized donor letters, emails, and other communications using mail merge or similar toolsPlan and carry out donor events that support the mission and community of the Newman CenterMeet with potential donors to invite them to partner with the Newman CenterFollow up with current donors to maintain sustainability and relationshipsWork with the Finance Committee of GW Catholics on promotion and fundraisingSeek opportunities to learn more about best practices in developmentAdministrative Coordinator(Approximately 20% of the time, year-round)The Administration Coordinator works with the Chaplain and other staff to maintain operations of the Newman Center, including billing, facility needs, contracts, financial oversight, and other as-needed tasks.Key ResponsibilitiesWork with the accountant to maintain and pay billsCollaborate with accountant and development staff on tracking income and depositsProcess cash/check deposits directly with the bankManage filing systems collaboratively with staff membersServe as first point of contact for vendors and facility repair or maintenance needsPerform other administrative tasks as requiredWork directly with Chaplain, accountant, staff, interns, and students to support overall Center needsQualificationsEducationBachelor’s degree requiredMaster’s degree/certification in administration, fundraising, or related fields strongly preferredSkillsReliable, organized, and an effective time managerMaintain discretion in confidential mattersWork effectively as a team member; communicate clearly with co-workers and othersPersonable and knowledgeable about the Newman CenterComfortable using computers, internet, and various application systemsExperience in Excel, Word, and mail merge processesExperience in finance software (Parish Soft preferred or similar) or willingness to learnExperience in donor database software (Flocknote Fundit preferred, or similar) or willingness to learnFamiliar with social networking toolsProject a friendly and welcoming atmosphere; provide warm hospitality to callers and visitorsExperienceTwo years of related administrative experience, or a combination of education, training, and experienceTwo years of fundraising experience preferred, or equivalent in practiceThe salary range for this role is $55,000 to $65,000 with excellent benefits
