Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Athlete Development
- Assist in coaching, training, and conditioning student-athletes to prepare them for performances, games, and school events.
- Support Varsity Cheer team practices and game-day performances.
- Teach proper cheer, dance, stunt, and tumbling techniques in a safe and effective manner.
- Foster teamwork, discipline, and confidence in a positive and inclusive environment.
- Keep abreast of current cheerleading techniques, safety protocols, and coaching strategies through clinics and training.
- Help student-athletes develop skills that enhance their personal growth and sportsmanship.
- Plan and supervise scheduled practices, workouts, and team-building activities.
- Assist in the team selection process during Spring tryouts.
- Attend and coach at Varsity contests and school spirit events as requested.
- Travel with the team and provide supervision at home and away football/basketball games.
- Coordinate game-day responsibilities, including cheer routines, crowd engagement, and sideline organization.
- Ensure compliance with WIAA and Metro/KingCo League rules, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Assist with the management of school-owned uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
- Work with the Head Coach to coordinate fundraising efforts and team activities.
- Maintain accurate records, track attendance, and supervise fundraising efforts.
- Attend required Athletic Department meetings, Metro League pre-season meetings, and WIAA rule clinics.
- Support the promotion and management of the Cheer Program.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for student-athletes, maintaining fair and consistent leadership.
- Help plan and execute:
- Fall Sports Assembly & Homecoming events.
- Football and basketball season cheer performances.
- Team fundraisers and community engagement activities.
- Youth cheer camps (summer and winter break camps).
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the Cheer Program.
- Strong understanding of cheerleading techniques, stunts, game-day spirit, and performance strategy.
- Effective behavior management techniques and team-building skills.
- Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes while fostering a positive team culture.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, administration, and parents.
- Ability to enforce team rules and maintain safety standards in line with WIAA and Metro League policies.
- Fair, consistent, and enthusiastic approach to coaching in a diverse, multi-ethnic environment.
- Requires substantial extra hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Requires physical exertion associated with demonstrating cheerleading techniques.
- Requires travel to practices, games, and events using BBHS vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in coaching or participation in competitive cheerleading, gymnastics, or dance.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification (required; can be obtained within the first six months).
- Valid Stunt Certification (preferred; must be completed within the first six months).
- Successful completion of WIAA Coaches Requirements.
- May 2026 March 2027 (dual-season commitment).
- Regular practices, games, and school spirit events.
- Travel for away games and participation in cheer camps.
- Additional planning, coordination, and administrative duties as assigned.
