GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Assistant Controller supports the financial operations of the Archdiocese by ensuring accurate accounting and financial reporting. This position collaborates closely with the Controller, Finance team, and various departments to maintain compliance with accounting principles, Archdiocesan policies, and applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate financial expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the values and mission of the Archdiocese.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Financial Management & Reporting:
• Oversee the monthly financial close, including general ledger journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
• Support and review the work of accounting staff to ensure accurate financial data and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal policies.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with Archdiocesan goals.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations and analysis of financial statements to ensure accuracy.
Leadership & Collaboration:
• Supervise, lead, inspire, and mentor team members to maximize performance, engagement, and professional growth.
• Collaborate with leadership to establish budgets, create financial forecasts, and provide variance analysis to guide strategic planning.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation within accounting systems to increase operational efficiency and reduce errors.
• Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate financial data and promote financial discipline across the organization.
• Collaborate with parishes, schools, and other Archdiocesan entities to ensure compliance with accounting policies and provide support as needed.
• Regular and reliable attendance are critical, in order to provide supervision and leadership.
Cash Management:
• Monitor and manage the organization’s cash flow, including cash forecasting.
• Develop and enforce cash handling procedures and policies to minimize risk and enhance operational efficiency.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
• Ensure adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in developing and implementing effective internal controls and processes to enhance accuracy and reduce risk.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
• Minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with relevant financial software.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
• Familiarity with the mission and values of the Catholic faith (strongly preferred).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The typical work scheduled will be during regular business office hours, from Monday to Friday, but may shift to accommodate specific tasks or events in the evening.
