ENTITY: Nativity: Faith and Reason in Denver is a Colorado nonprofit corporation that provides ministry services to

the Broomfield area. Nativity Faith and Reason Catholic School is a ministry of the parish.

Pay Type: Hourly, Non-exempt

Time Commitment: As directed by the employee’s contract. A contract is offered for one academic year

THE POSITION: A classroom assistant helps teachers with classroom tasks and management. Your goal is to enable

teachers to focus solely on educating students. As a classroom assistant, your duties include working with children

who need extra attention, correcting student work, and performing various clerical tasks. You may prepare

equipment or activities based on the teacher’s lesson plan. You may be asked to supervise children in the classroom,

hallways, and/or outside.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Getting the classroom ready for lessons and clearing away afterwards to maintain a safe and clean environment
• Assisting Teachers in preparing the lesson materials and school equipment
• Recording and reporting a pupil’s progress to the Teacher
• Helping pupils stay focused during class hours
• Supervising group activities, recess, dismissal or start-of-school day, cafeteria, and field trips
• Helping Teachers manage student behavior
• Looking after children, unwell or upset
• Providing a healthy and safe learning environment for children
• Additional duties assigned by the principal

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent qualification

Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field is preferred

A minimum of 2 years of experience as a teaching assistant or similar role

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Have a positive and supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings and her work; refrain from public promotion or approval of any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic Doctrine or morals
• Good people skills are essential as the person who works in this position works around children and with others as a team
• Able to communicate clearly, be self-aware of appearance, language and behavior always
• Able to foster teamwork; able to work with others in a supportive manner
• Be willing and able to receive ongoing training regarding any aspect of this position
• Capable of receiving and following instructions
• A self-starter, capable of independent work
• Must meet all requirements to pass a background check
• Must complete all classes/seminars as directed by Nativity: Faith and Reason Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Denver
• An active Christian, Catholic preferred, in good standing with the Catholic Church
• Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices
• Must have a compassionate and positive attitude

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to be physically active for the number of hours prescribed by the employment contract
• Must always be mentally alert. Position requires working with equipment and safety must be always observed. Safety applies not only to the worker but to those who may be around the worker
• Must be able to stand as directed by the learning activity or supervising duty
• Must be able to tolerate loud noises associated with ordinary management of children Maintain good physical health with the ability to perform job duties, lift 30 pounds, move quickly, bend, squat, kneel, sit on floor, reach overhead
