Primary Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end strategy for complex coverage issues and litigation matters, including investigation, exposure assessment, reserve adequacy, and resolution planning.
- Drive litigation management with internal and external counsel, including mediations and trials as needed; negotiate complex settlements that balance risk and business objectives.
- Prepare executive-level reporting and lead discussions with senior leadership, customers, and key stakeholders on high-profile matters, trends, and emerging case law.
- Serve as a technical leader—staying current on commercial insurance laws and regulations and ensuring alignment with company guidelines and fair claim practices.
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional initiatives sponsored by the CTCO/Chief Claims Officer to strengthen complex-claims capability and operating discipline.
- Partner with Claims, Underwriting, Legal, and the broader Technical Claims Office to align priorities, deliverables, and decision frameworks.
- Develop and deliver targeted technical training and coaching to strengthen coverage and complex-claims capability.
- J.D. required.
- 10 years of experience as an attorney and/or claims professional with deep expertise in complex coverage issues, high-exposure claims, and coverage litigation.
- Proven ability to partner with and influence claim executives and senior stakeholders.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with sound judgment and strong prioritization.
- Executive-level communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across insureds, brokers, counsel, and internal business partners.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required insurance adjuster licenses.
- Self-directed, highly accountable, and able to deliver under pressure.
- Strong analytical skills—able to synthesize complex facts and present crisp recommendations.
- Deep knowledge of claim handling guidelines, best practices, and fair claim practices across jurisdictions and lines.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, organization, and time-management skills.
- Collaborative, with the ability to work independently and lead through influence.
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and analytics/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Hybrid role; preferred locations include Morristown/Jersey City, NJ or Long Island/NY offices (flexibility considered).
- Availability for business travel as needed.
$145,000 - $190,000/year
- Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
