What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer position at arcboatcompany?

What we’re building

Every idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: Boats are special — but they’re loud, pollutant, unreliable, and stuck in the past. Gas-powered boats dominate not because they’re great, but because no better option has existed. Until now.

Arc is here to change that. We’re building 100% electric boats from the ground up — quicker, quieter, easier to maintain, and better for the water they ride on. We’re not just swapping gas for batteries. We’re rethinking every detail on the boat — from propulsion and powertrain to software and ownership model — applying first-principles engineering from aerospace and EVs to deliver a better boating experience.

Electric boats haven’t taken over yet. The tech hasn’t been ready. The talent hasn’t been focused here. That’s our opportunity — and we’re moving fast.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who’s fired up by our mission and ready to build. You’ll thrive here if you move fast, take ownership, and care about the details.

This is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles facility. You’ll report to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer and work closely with a lean, high-trust team where everyone’s work matters.

Core Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing scalable manufacturing processes that support efficient, high-rate production while meeting quality and cost goals
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to provide feedback on product designs and improve manufacturability across systems
  • Championing continuous improvement and lean manufacturing efforts to increase throughput, reduce waste, and drive operational excellence
  • Investigating and resolving production challenges using thoughtful, hands-on problem-solving and strong engineering fundamentals
  • Authoring and maintaining clear, accessible documentation—including BOMs, work instructions, and process specifications—to support training and consistency
  • Designing and validating production tooling using CAD and analytical techniques
  • Supporting cross-functional projects across composites, integration, battery systems, and harnessing, with the potential to take ownership of a specific system over time
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to deliver quality outcomes and align on production goals

Basic Qualifications

(Must-haves)

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of professional experience in manufacturing, production engineering, or related fields
  • Proven track record of supporting the scale-up of production systems from prototype to full-rate manufacturing requiring large-scale tooling such as cranes and trailers.
  • Practical understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methods
  • Hands-on experience in a production environment with a strong willingness to engage directly with builds and processes using hand tools
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals to real-world manufacturing challenges in a thoughtful, pragmatic way

Bonus Qualifications

(Nice-to-haves)

  • Experience working across multiple systems or disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, composites, integration)
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX or similar (training available)
  • Ability to balance detail-oriented work with big-picture thinking to make informed, inclusive engineering decisions
  • Clear and confident communicator who can collaborate across teams and advocate for manufacturing needs
  • Background in fast-paced or startup environments with exposure to ambiguity and evolving priorities
  • Passion for sustainable technology, clean energy, and/or watercraft
  • Comfort leading or mentoring peers, even informally, in continuous improvement or documentation practices
  • Comfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace
  • Enthusiasm for the water

Our Values

We move with urgency and build with care. We believe in:

  • Ownership – You own your work and outcomes
  • Empathy – You put people first, always
  • Humility – You default to curiosity, not ego
  • Pragmatism – You solve what matters
  • Inclusion – You seek different perspectives

We want people who share these values and want their work to mean something bigger than a job.

What We Offer

We don’t think great work happens by accident. We invest in the people building Arc — because when you’re supported, you do your best work.

  • Salary between $120,000 - $145,000
  • Ownership – Equity in Arc
  • Captain Training – Get certified to take the boat out with friends and family
  • Arc Water Fund – Annual stipend to get out on the water, however you choose
  • 99% employer-paid health coverage – Medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) access – Plan your future
  • Semi-annual bonuses – Tied to your impact, not just your tenure
  • Daily team lunches, snacks, and good coffee while onsite
  • Parental leave – Because family comes first
  • Boat days – Yes, we actually go out on the water. A lot.
  • A chance to define the future of boating

Hope to hear from you soon!
