Summary:
To serve as a member of the Evaluation Center’s Diagnostic Team performing psychological assessments with children referred for initial evaluations and re-evaluations; will provide psychological/counseling services for those children enrolled in KidStart programs; and will consult and confer with KidStart staff regarding individual and classroom management needs, social-emotional education, behavior programs and related concerns. Actively support the use of developmentally appropriate practices, as defined by the National Association of the Education of young Children, while providing services to children.

Essential Functions:
  • Conducts diagnostic psychological evaluations for children referred to the evaluation center via the CPSE or EIP.
  • Collaborates with, and provides input to, the Evaluation Team, and completes written reports in a timely manner to meet specific timelines.
  • Serves as a resource person to classroom and clinical staff regarding the social-emotional, behavioral and psychological needs of children.
  • Assists staff and/or completes Functional Behavior Assessments and subsequent behavior programs.
  • Serves as a member of KidStart’s Initiative Team (KIT), working to create a trauma-informed environment that meets the social and emotional needs of all children.
  • Provides information regarding teaching strategies to meet the needs of individual children.
  • Provides direct counseling services as outlined in children’s IEPs.
  • Provides parent counseling & training as outlined in children’s IEPs.
  • Participates in team meetings when requested
  • Provides parent education/training to all program families as needed.
  • Conducts staff in-service training when requested.
  • Follows the policy of confidentiality regarding child/family information.
  • Participates in quality assurance and compliance activities as required.
  • Demonstrates Arc GLOW’s values of inclusion, respect, and professionalism by providing high-quality early childhood services that support each child’s unique strengths and partner with families to create meaningful opportunities for learning and growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Functions:
  • Conducts self so as to best contribute to, promote and implement the mission, philosophy and policies of the agency.
  • Participates in CPSE meetings on an as-needed basis.
  • Provides support to the Evaluation Team Leader for scheduling, packets and meetings, as needed.
  • Keeps informed of current birth to five legislation and of new developments in the field of psychology.
  • Fulfills other requirements as requested by supervisor and/or Program Director.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to people of different backgrounds and abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to maintain composure under pressure and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Effective facilitation & presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, as well as the ability to grasp other required computer systems.
  • Ability to adjust to ideas, technologies, activities, etc.
  • Strong time management skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to use standard office equipment including personal computer, phone, fax, copier, etc.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the physical abilities and stamina to participate in children’s play and sustain active work throughout the day. Work with children requires:
  • Ability to walk or run quickly
  • Ability to sit on the floor or in child-sized chairs for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to maintain eye contact with children
  • Ability to walk on rough or uneven ground
  • Ability to lift children (30lb min.)
  • Ability to maintain the safety of the environment and children.
  • Must be able to move quickly and react calmly in response to an emergency.
  • Must exhibit good judgment in matters concerning the health and safety of children
Working Conditions:
  • Working conditions are typical for a childcare setting
  • Exposure to bodily fluids, potentially infectious material and communicable diseases
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Licensed as a Psychologist in New York State OR permanent School Psychologist Certification by New York State Education Department.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s license
