Job Title: Fiber Splicer
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fiber Splicer to join our team. The Fiber Splicer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables. This role involves precise splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fiber Splicing: Perform accurate fiber splicing using various techniques to ensure high-quality connections.
- Installation and Maintenance: Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables in various environments, including underground, aerial, and indoor settings.
- Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct fiber optic testing using OTDR, power meters, and other testing equipment to identify and resolve issues promptly.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of splicing activities, test results, and fiber routes. Update and manage fiber optic infrastructure documentation.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, contractors, and clients to complete projects on time and within specifications. Provide technical support and guidance as needed.
- Quality Control: Ensure all splicing and installations meet industry standards and company quality requirements. Perform regular inspections and quality checks.
- Emergency Response: Be available for emergency call-outs and participate in on-call rotation as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber splicing or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in fiber optic splicing techniques, including fusion and mechanical splicing. Familiarity with fiber optic testing equipment and procedures.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or Fiber Optic Installer (FOI) are preferred.
- Knowledge: Understanding of fiber optic cable construction, network topologies, and splicing best practices.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve fiber optic issues efficiently.
- Attention to Detail: High level of precision and attention to detail in splicing and testing processes.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and heights. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
