Position Summary
The Blaster/Painter is responsible for preparing, blasting, and applying industrial coatings to equipment and components in accordance with ARC Energy's quality and safety standards. This position ensures surfaces are properly cleaned, coated, and finished to protect equipment from corrosion while maintaining a high-quality appearance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, masking, and sandblasting.
- Operate blasting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Mix and apply industrial primers, paints, and protective coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting and painting to ensure quality standards are met.
- Measure coating thickness and verify proper coverage when required.
- Maintain blasting and painting equipment in good working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures related to blasting, painting, respirator use, and hazardous materials.
- Read and interpret work orders, drawings, and coating specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials as needed.
- Work closely with other shop personnel to meet production schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous industrial blasting and painting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of industrial coatings, surface preparation, and painting techniques.
- Ability to safely operate blasting and painting equipment.
- Basic understanding of OSHA safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to read tape measures and follow written instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and industrial shop environments.
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including respirators, blasting hoods, gloves, and protective clothing.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary.
Work Environment
This position is performed primarily in an industrial shop environment where employees are exposed to noise, dust, fumes, paint vapors, and heavy equipment. Proper PPE is required at all times.
