Job Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all company vehicles and specialized arboricultural equipment. This role ensures that our fleet—including Ford trucks, bucket trucks, dump trucks, and CAT rubber-tracked skid steers and excavators—as well as field tools, are safe for the crew to operate and comply with DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities:

- Hydraulic Systems: Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems on bucket trucks (aerial lifts), wood chippers, log loaders, and excavators.
- Small Engine Repair: Maintain and repair a large inventory of small engines, including professional-grade chainsaws (Stihl/Husqvarna), blowers, and hedge trimmers.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits of all climbing gear and mechanical equipment to ensure compliance with ANSI Z133 safety standards.
- Fabrication: Perform minor welding and fabrication for truck beds, chipper chutes, or equipment trailers as needed.

- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed service logs for every piece of equipment to track maintenance schedules and costs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably with heavy equipment, small engines, or diesel engines.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and electrical troubleshooting.
- Small Engine Expertise: Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.
- Licensing: A valid driver's license is required. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A or B) is highly preferred to test-drive and move large trucks.
- Tools: Requires the mechanic to provide their own basic set of hand tools; the company provides specialized diagnostic and heavy equipment tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs regularly.
- Comfort working in a shop environment that may be loud, greasy, and exposed to outdoor weather.
- Stamina to stand, kneel, and crawl under vehicles for extended periods.
