The Dietary Aide performs a variety of food service functions in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions of food service areas, facilities, and equipment. He/she may also assist in some aspects of food preparation.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Handles food and equipment according to corporate, local, state and federal sanitation policies and procedures.

2. Is aware of safety regulations and responsibilities in operating all equipment.

3. Delivers food carts, trays, etc., to designated areas as instructed by supervisor.

4. Prepares and delivers snacks.

5. Performs daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.

6. Reports any discrepancies in his/her area to supervisor.

7. Ensures that customer and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Duties

1. Interact with residents, families, visitors, facility and corporate staff.

2. Must possess working knowledge of the methods and techniques of handling and serving food.

3. Must possess working knowledge of sanitation practices relating to food handling.

4. Must have the ability to follow diet lists, portion food as specified, and serve food in an appetizing manner.

5. Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.

6. May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as the facility’s needs require.

7. Must practice good personal hygiene and follow the dress code requirements.

8. Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test as required.

Qualifications

1. Some high school is required.

2. Must have knowledge of the methods and techniques of handling and serving food.

3. Must have knowledge of sanitation practices relating to food handling.

4. Must have the ability to follow diet lists, portion foods as specified, and serve food in an appetizing manner.

5. Must possess the ability to positively interact with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.

6. Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and follow written and oral directions in the English language.

7. Must possess good organizational and time management skills.

8. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.

9. Must possess the ability to maintain composure and interact courteously and professionally.

10. Must maintain regular attendance

11. Must meet all local health regulations. This requirement also incudes criminal background investigation and reference inquiry.

12. Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical and Sensory. Requirements (With or Without the Aide of Mechanical Devices ): Walking/mobility, reaching, bending, lifting, transferring and repositioning residents, grasping, pushing and pulling, fine hand coordination; ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures; ability to hear and respond to pages; ability to read and write; ability to understand and apply training and in-service education; ability to instruct other staff in training education and staff meetings; ability to communicate with residents and others; and ability to remain calm in emergency situations and when handling multiple tasks,
