Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Food Service Worker role located at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Food Service Workers support daily dining operations, including preparing, assembling, and serving food and beverages according to established recipes and portion standards. The role involves setting up and breaking down service stations, restocking supplies, and maintaining clean and sanitary work, dining, and service areas in compliance with food safety guidelines. Team members interact directly with students, faculty, and guests by taking orders, answering basic menu questions, and ensuring a friendly and efficient service experience. Additional responsibilities may include operating basic kitchen and service equipment, assisting with dishwashing and waste management, and collaborating with colleagues to support peak service times and special campus events.
Qualifications
- Food preparation skills, including basic cooking, assembling meals, and following standard recipes and portion sizes.
- Experience in food service and food & beverage operations, preferably in a cafeteria, dining hall, or similar high-volume environment.
- Knowledge of food safety practices, including proper storage, handling, temperature control, and sanitation procedures.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact courteously and professionally with a diverse campus community.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry supplies as needed, and work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, based on campus dining needs.
- Previous food service or hospitality experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
