Job Title: Campus Safety Officer (Weekend Availability Required)
Supervisor: Director of Campus Safety
Job Status: Part-Time, Hourly, 2nd Shift

POSITION SUMMARY:
Keeping The Aquinas Institute campus, students and employees safe is a huge priority. The Campus Safety Officer will interact with people daily and must take pride in keeping them and our building safe and secure. The on-duty Security personnel is often the first person that people come into contact with as they visit our educational institution or begin their workday. Safety Officers must be able to act quickly, respond in emergency situations, have a friendly welcoming attitude, and must uphold the values, rules and policies of The Aquinas Institute.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In the absence of the Director of Campus Safety, this individual will…
- Act as a liaison with the following: Aquinas President, Principal and Administrative Directors to ensure that situations are appropriately addressed and communicated.
- Act as the school’s official campus contact with community fire departments and law enforcement agencies.
- Enact the Aquinas ‘All Hazards Emergency Response Plan’, and serve as the representative for the School in charge of the scene in these incidents. Notify the Director of Campus Safety when it is safe to do so.
- Notify the appropriate authorities that enforce state laws. Enforce the Schools Student Code of Conduct, and makes decisions regarding the need to remove individuals from campus premises. In the event that a person needs to be removed from the campus or law enforcement is contacted; the Director of Campus Safety should be notified immediately. Any further notifications will be completed by the Director of Campus Safety. Assist the Director of Campus Safety in planning, supervising, and coordinating security operations on a 24-hour basis; investigating and reporting on all security issues; leading and participating in the provision of security services such as supervising, monitoring, training and assessing the performance of Security staff and Athletic Event Supervisors.
- Respond quickly and effectively to all security incidents, emergencies, or alarms according to established protocols.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Assist in providing training and supervision of Aquinas Security staff and Athletic Event Supervisors, and ensures that adequate staff is available to serve the needs of the campus.
- Maintain a visible presence at all times to deter and observe potential security risks, incidents, or safety hazards
- Respond quickly and effectively to all security incidents, emergencies, or alarms according to established protocols
- Conduct regular patrols of the premises to identify any suspicious activity or safety concerns.
- Monitor all entrances and exits to ensure that only authorized personnel have access to the building
- Directing visitors to appropriate entry/exit points and logging their entry to the premises when it’s required to do so.
- Monitoring our video surveillance system and reviewing footage if necessary. Assist local law enforcement with retrieving and copying of any requested video.
- Write detailed reports of all incidents or unusual circumstances encountered during your shift.
- Alerting authorities if needed for emergencies or security breaches.
- Addressing any infractions of building rules and/or forwarding them to the Director of Campus Safety.
- Inspecting, testing, and maintaining our security systems, as well as calling for maintenance as needed.
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times and resolve conflict in a calm and effective manner.
- Undergo regular training to keep abreast of new developments in security procedures and technologies.
- Suppress Disturbances – In the rare occurrence that an altercation may occur, Campus Safety Officers/Security Guards are responsible for suppressing the disturbance per the training standards established by the Aquinas Institute.
- Is an integral part of the school community who assists administration in upholding the mission and values of Aquinas and in maintaining order and discipline with students throughout the shift, enforcing school policy consistently.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Safety or Principal.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge and experience:
- Completed High School Diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience as a security guard/officer
- NYS Registered Security Officer
- Maintain update on applicable/required certifications such as:
CPR and Basic First Aid Certification (If not currently certified, must be obtained within 90 days of employment)

- Be physically fit and able to stand for long periods of time, as well as lift and carry heavy objects if necessary.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive at all times, even during long or monotonous shifts
- Help enforce Section V and the NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Standards.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Law Enforcement experience preferred
- Armed security experience preferred
- Concealed carry license
- Extensive training in firearms and self-defense preferred
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Must be able to work a variable shift schedule including night shifts
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must complete Safe and Sacred training as well as Employee Sexual harassment prevention within 14 days of employment.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work environment may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions;
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Moderate physical activity; requires handling of average-weight objects and standing or walking for extended periods of time.
- Prone to interruptions and possibly irregular hours.
- Subject to respond to varying and unpredictable situations. Accountable to respond to emergency situations
HOURS: 2:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, as scheduled by the Director of Campus Safety. Hours not to exceed 20 per week. The ability to work outside the school schedule frequently to support weekend events as necessary.
At Aquinas, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.
The base pay for this role is approximately $21 -$25 per hour. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is also available.
