What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor and Lifeguard position at Aquatic Academy?
Description/Essential Functions
- Plans and organizes personal class teaching outlines, methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the Aquatics Manager and the American Red Cross Swimming Program.
- Organizes and directs activities of assigned students in order to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.
- Ensures that all class students are registered, with a registration card prior to beginning class, are thoroughly involved, are on a first-name personalized basis in meaningful instruction for the two week duration and are in receipt of appropriate certificates and awards as the session concludes.
- Establishes positive public relations with parents/guardians of class students helping them recognize and understand swimming developments and achievements.
- Resolves simple public complaints in matters related to swimming instruction and refers other complaints to the Aquatics Manager.
- Enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities.
- Helps organize and assists in the development of special programs, activities or instruction.
- Completes and submits records and documentation of completed lessons to the Aquatics Manager and the American Red Cross office.
- Works with the Aquatics Manager on an on-going basis to upgrade, improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective swimming lessons to various age groups and various skill levels.
- Maintains an on-going program of personal physical fitness.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Evaluate situations involving swimmers and pool activities (e.g. proper activities/hazards, persons in distress/danger of drowning, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or reporting incident/s to appropriate personnel for resolutions.
· Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Good decision-maker.

- Able to bend, squat, lift and stretch as needed for job duties
· Conduct oneself in a professional manner. Perform with a high level of customer service and ensure a positive customer experience.
· Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including abiding by uniform requirements.
- Ability to receive direction and follow written and oral instructions
- Able to lift at least 40 lbs.
- Able to use electronic devices to connect computers to tvs to view Red Cross Documents.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- No experience required, training provided
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Ability and willingness to achieve Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard Training
- Must be flexible regarding scheduling as it is based on business demands to include some weekend and holiday availability
- Successful completion of criminal background check
Desired Qualifications & Traits
- Good oral communication skills
- Prior First Aid, CPR, AED experience
- Prior lifeguard training and/or experience
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
