Shellfish Hatchery Position

If you answered Yes to those questions, you are the person we’re looking for to join the talented, friendly and hard-working staff at Aquacultural Research Corporation (A.R.C.) in Dennis, MA, one of the largest shellfish hatcheries in New England.

A.R.C. spawns hundreds of millions of oysters and clams a year in support of the Cape’s shellfish growers. We are searching for someone to work in our Larval/Juvenile Department as a hatchery technician. In this position you will be helping spawn and rear larval and juvenile oysters, clams and scallops. You will also be asked to occasionally work in other departments supporting your co-workers.

We are seeking a reliable, responsible and well-organized team player with excellent communications and time management skills – someone who pays attention to details and has the ability to work alone or with others. No directly related experience is necessary, we will train you.

Responsibilities and Duties include:

• Changing and cleaning Broodstock and rearing tanks
• Evaluating juvenile shellfish
• Larval counts
• Maintaining appropriate levels of food
• Assisting with spawning
• Daily health assessment of the shellfish
• Water sampling
• Cleaning seawater and algae lines
• Washing filter bags
• Ensuring all systems are running properly
• Special Projects

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of a high school diploma
• Time management
• Highly organized
• Team oriented
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must be able to work full days on their feet doing physical tasks
• Must be able to work one weekend day and some holidays
• Must have reliable transportation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
