Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive ICU nursing care to critically ill patients, including those requiring ventilator support, advanced airway management, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Administer medications and treatments such as IV infusions, botulinum toxin treatments, and pain management protocols following strict safety standards.
  • Conduct detailed patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations to inform ongoing treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians specializing in cardiology, ophthalmology, infectious disease, trauma medicine, and more to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation and medical records management.
  • Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization (including cardiac catheterization), laboratory specimen collection, and aseptic techniques.
  • Ensure infection control protocols are rigorously followed to maintain a sterile environment and prevent hospital-acquired infections.
  • Assist in discharge planning and patient education for long-term care or post-acute recovery settings such as hospice or memory care units.

Requirements

  • Valid RN license with current state registration; experience working in ICU settings is essential.
  • Demonstrated critical care experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers, emergency rooms, or intensive care units.
  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology related to acute and intensive care medicine.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities, and those requiring specialized memory or dementia care.
  • Ability to perform complex procedures like tube feeding management, ventilator operation, IV insertion/infusion therapy, and laboratory specimen processing.
  • Excellent communication skills for triage assessments and interdisciplinary collaboration; ability to adapt quickly in travel nursing environments.
  • Certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and specialized trauma or emergency medicine training are highly desirable.
