Role:TypeScript Backend Architect – PaaS

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid - 4 days/week onsite)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a hands-on Backend Architect with deep expertise in TypeScript and modern cloud-native technologies to design, develop, and scale highly available platform services. This role is focused on backend architecture and engineering, requiring strong technical leadership combined with active development responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience building microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven systems while leveraging technologies such as Kafka, DynamoDB, Node.js, and cloud-based infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with engineering, DevOps, and platform teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient solutions in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect, design, and develop scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Lead the implementation of high-performance REST APIs and distributed microservices architectures.
• Design and build event-driven applications utilizing Kafka and messaging-based integration patterns.
• Develop data models and persistence strategies using DynamoDB and other NoSQL databases.
• Partner with DevOps teams to automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment pipelines, and cloud-native operations.
• Drive architectural decisions around scalability, performance optimization, reliability, observability, and security.
• Implement caching strategies using technologies such as Redis to improve application responsiveness and throughput.
• Create and maintain API specifications and documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger standards.
• Contribute to CI/CD automation and release management processes using modern DevOps tools.
• Establish and promote engineering best practices including automated testing, code quality, security, and maintainability.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and provide technical guidance across multiple concurrent initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience as a Backend Architect or Senior Backend Engineer.
• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js application development.
• Proven experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and backend platform services.
• Strong expertise with Apache Kafka, including event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing patterns.
• Extensive experience with DynamoDB and NoSQL database design principles.
• Experience building scalable distributed systems in cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of software security principles, design patterns, and secure development practices.
• Experience working with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development methodologies.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality solutions with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with MongoDB or other document-based databases.
• Experience with AWS cloud services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and other managed services.
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Istio, and ArgoCD.
• Experience implementing caching solutions using Redis.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, Splunk, Instana, or Prometheus.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of cloud deployment strategies and infrastructure automation.
