Job Summary: Responsible for the repair, maintenance and improvement of Aptar molds. The engineer participates on teams that identify and resolve issues with Aptar molds. All phases of mold repair are encompassed including: quoting of repairs, project management, create sample requests and analyzing sample results, incorporating engineering changes into existing molds and reviewing design changes made by other engineers.
- Participate on teams for incorporating technical manufacturing expertise in the design of the product.
- Project management.
- Revalidation of molds after design changes or repairs have been made.
- Incorporate engineering changes into existing molds.
- Maintain systems to current quality, (SQF, ISO 9000, etc.) requirements.
- Review and approve tooling designs of Process Engineers.
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Quality.
- Quotation of cost and lead time for mold repairs.
- Interact with Product Development, Marketing, Quality, Production Control and Manufacturing for input into our efforts to make quality parts.
- Establish mold repair standards and schedules, solicit quotation for tooling repairs.
- Create purchase requisitions, tool room work orders and sample requests.
- Control the repair and maintenance of molds, expedite repairs and report on status.
- Coordinate and supervise the sampling and delivery of repaired molds, control the repair, refurbishment and changes to existing tooling.
- Provide support to Manufacturing and the Tool room (Mukwonago Campus) for both the operations center and outside molders.
- Manage Engineering changes including introduction of new orifice sizes and seal configurations, and mold problem resolution and repair.
- Respond to continuous improvement team requirements.
- Participate on new part and mold design reviews as assigned by Supervisor.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Education/Experience:
- 4-year plastics engineering or 2-year technical degree (BSME, BSIE preferred) or 2-year Engineering associate degree or equivalent considered with five or more years’ experience in injection mold design and build.
- Skills/Abilities:
- Mold and tooling quoting/cost estimating experience.
- Working knowledge of the injection molding process.
- Mechanical and industrial engineering skills.
- Accurate engineering drawing reading.
- Good written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to work with all levels of manufacturing personnel.
- Knowledge of quality systems, SPC, SQC and test methods.
- Ability to interact and negotiate with outside suppliers and internal departments.
- Good project management skills.
- Ability to recommend product enhancements for manufacturability.
