Position Purpose
The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a key role in turning ideas into buildable, shippable solutions. This position is responsible for developing innovative mechanical designs that meet customer needs, project budgets, and production requirements. Working from initial concepts through final release, Design Engineers collaborate closely with manufacturing, project teams, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions that are efficient to assemble, cost-effective to produce, and ready for real-world use.

Job Functions and Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Development
- Design mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for a wide variety of industrial machinery
- Translate customer requirements, concepts, and budgets into functional, manufacturable designs
- Create 3D models, layouts, and engineering drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks)
Project Execution
- Manage assigned design tasks to meet project schedules, cost targets, and performance goals
- Support multiple projects at once and pivot quickly as priorities change
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input throughout the project lifecycle
Manufacturing & Assembly Support
- Ensure designs are practical to assemble, test, ship, and service
- Collaborate closely with fabrication, machining, and assembly teams to resolve design or build issues
- Release accurate bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and documentation for production
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Troubleshoot mechanical challenges during build and installation phases
- Identify opportunities to improve designs for cost, quality, reliability, and ease of manufacturing
- Apply engineering best practices and standards to ensure safe and effective solutions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with project managers, electrical/controls engineers, and customers to deliver complete systems
- Communicate design intent clearly through drawings, documentation, and team discussions
- Support customer meetings, project updates, and technical decision-making
Growth & Leadership
- Mentor junior engineers, apprentices, and detailers
- Lead complex, high-dollar engineering projects and guide design teams
- Drive technical strategy and ensure engineering excellence across programs
Additional Expectations
· Availability of some expected travel for project meetings, and occasional installation
assistance.
· Availability to respond to customer equipment issues due to customer production
requirements.
· Availability to attend planned training as needed.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
Exposure/Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Understanding of Industrial Math (Trigonometry and Geometry)
Machine Building Experience –some level of exposure to machining, welding, or industrial equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
- Able to sit for 4-6 hours at a time
- Able to stand, squat, bend over, pick up 20lbs repeatedly and up to 50lbs occasionally
- Able to manually operate small hand tools and larger power tools
- Able to accurately see fine details in prints, on computer, or in machines (unaided or with glasses, magnifying tools, etc.)
Tools and Technology
- Must be proficient in computer use and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Must have experience with 3D Modeling Software Solid Works
- Must be familiar with ERP Software
