Second Shift Production Supervisor

Hicksville, OH Full Time
POSTED ON 10/24/2026

Second Shift Production Supervisor

The Second Shift Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating second-shift manufacturing operations across machining, welding/fabrication, and assembly to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to the production schedule. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for directing employees, assigning work, monitoring production performance, maintaining quality standards, and addressing issues that could affect safety, quality, productivity, or delivery. Because second shift operates with fewer dedicated support resources, the Second Shift Production Supervisor will also be trained and expected to support key indirect functions, including material picking and movement and quality inspection and approval activities. The successful candidate will be comfortable leading a growing production team, making sound decisions with limited on-shift support, and maintaining strong communication and coordination with first-shift manufacturing leadership.

Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership and supervision to second-shift production employees across machining, welding/fabrication, and assembly operations.
  • Execute the established production schedule and coordinate labor and equipment to achieve daily production priorities.
  • Assign work based on production requirements, employee capabilities, equipment availability, and priorities.
  • Monitor progress throughout the shift and make adjustments as necessary to maintain schedule, throughput, and delivery expectations.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and ensure employees follow established safety policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Maintain accountability for workmanship and product quality throughout second-shift operations.
  • Perform and/or approve designated quality inspections after completing the required training, ensuring product meets established drawings, specifications, and quality requirements before moving to the next operation.
  • Support material picking, staging, and movement to ensure employees have the materials and components required to maintain production flow throughout the shift.
  • Provide leadership across machining, welding/fabrication, and assembly, including mills, lathes, laser cutting, bending, welding, painting, and final assembly operations.
  • Respond to production problems, equipment issues, quality concerns, material shortages, and other obstacles that arise during the shift, escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Assist in training and developing second-shift employees and support cross-training to improve flexibility across manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient manufacturing environment.
  • Ensure accurate completion of required production, quality, and operational documentation.
  • Communicate production status, completed work, shortages, quality concerns, equipment issues, and other relevant information through an effective shift handoff.
  • Work closely with first-shift supervisors, manufacturing leadership, scheduling, quality, materials, engineering, and other departments to resolve issues and maintain continuity between shifts.
  • Lead by example and foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, urgency, problem solving, and continuous improvement.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical, manufacturing, or leadership education preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Previous supervisory, team lead, or manufacturing leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in machining, welding/fabrication, metal manufacturing, assembly, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience interpreting production schedules, work orders, drawings, and manufacturing documentation preferred.
  • Previous experience with quality inspection, measurement equipment, material handling, or inventory processes is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead employees and maintain accountability in a production environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift 30-50 pounds
  • Ability to stand 8-10 hours
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks
  • Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately
