SUMMARY
This contract Electrical Engineer 2 position will support both the Facilities Engineering group and the Telecommunications group in the Transmission Services business line.
This engineer will conduct system analysis, design, review, and check electrical designs done by internal engineers or external Architecture & Engineering design firms for electrical systems at corporate substations and telecommunications sites.
The position will coordinate and facilitate all building electrical; lighting, circuits, panels, wiring, HVAC, fire alarm systems, security systems, communication systems, emergency power systems, engine generators and electrical gates.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as point of contact and subject matter resource and provide electrical engineering expertise and support for corporate buildings and building systems.
- Corporate building facilities include substation control houses, telecommunication buildings, and other Transmission system supporting facilities, such as Operation and Maintenance (O&M) buildings, etc.
- Work includes site assessments, scoping (planning), design, and submittal review. In addition, assist organizational Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) with Requests for Information (RFIs), construction field inspection (review commissioning, startup, redlines) and project closeout.
- Provide electrical engineering and design support for building and building electrical system(s) which includes industrial type electrical power distribution systems ranging from low voltage 50V – 240V.
- Distribution system typically comprise of distribution transformers, panelboards, lighting systems, underground and overhead conduit and cabling systems
- Review, and check electrical design drawings, and specifications developed by outside Architect Engineering (AE) design contractors for new and existing building facilities’ electrical systems.
- Provide electrical engineering expertise to design and review AE submittals for building alarm systems, engine generators, HVAC systems, and gas detectors etc.
- Provide technical reviews and consultation of building electrical systems for building projects.
- Conduct station service load flow, arc flash studies, and short circuit analyses for 50V – 480V distribution systems.
- Identify and analyze problems associated with low voltage electrical systems.
- Apply industry codes for electrical systems and equipment used in corporate building facilities.
- Provide technical input and recommendations for electrical engineering requirements and technical design parameters in the development of building facility equipment (HVAC, Lighting, EGs, fans, sensors, monitoring, outlets, circuits, etc.). Verify requirements, design parameters, and specifications meet all functional, operational, maintenance, reliability, and safety requirements, including National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (from an ABET accredited school) is required.
- 5 - 10 years of work-related experience and knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices
Required Technical Skills & Experience
- 5 - 7 years of experience with design and engineering of low and medium voltage systems in compliance with various Codes.
- 5 - 7 years of experience with Power Systems, power distribution, and utilization. This includes knowledge and design experience of transformers, panelboards, standby engine-generators, motors, lighting system, Fire Alarm system, cabling, and grounding etc.
- Knowledge of professional engineering theory and techniques sufficient to provide technical leadership in the design of electrical systems.
- Understanding of Electrical Safety Standards, safety regulations, and code requirements (NESC).
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), which is crucial for ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards.
- Familiarity of the different industry standards related to electrical design and installation such as the National Fire protection Association (NFPA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), ANSI and others
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to develop and deliver briefings, statuses, reports, statements of work, and miscellaneous correspondence.
- Familiarity with electrical System Short Circuit, and Arc Flash Studies
