Our DoD/Aerospace client is looking to fill an Advanced Mechanical Engineer position supporting the Undersea Mission Solutions team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop advanced electronic and mechanical packaging solutions for mission-critical defense systems. The engineer will work as part of, and potentially lead, a cross-functional engineering team responsible for mechanical design, validation, structural and thermal analysis, shock and vibration analysis, and design for manufacturability.
Location: McLeansville, NC (Hybrid)
Position: Advanced Mechanical Engineer
Contract Length: 12–24 months with possibility of going direct
Pay: $55.62 per hour
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field with 5 years of experience OR Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience
Schedule: First Shift
Clearance Requirement: Secret Clearance is obtainable (U.S. citizenship required)
In this role, you will use your engineering expertise to:
Mechanical Design & Development
- Design and develop electronic and mechanical packaging solutions for advanced defense systems.
- Create mechanical models, drawings, and assemblies using CAD software.
- Support product development from concept through validation and production.
- Design components with a focus on manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
Engineering Analysis
- Perform structural, thermal, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses.
- Conduct shock and vibration analysis to ensure product durability and mission readiness.
- Validate mechanical designs through simulation, testing, and engineering evaluations.
- Support design optimization for performance and environmental requirements.
Product Development & Validation
- Lead or support prototype development, fabrication, and testing activities.
- Participate in design reviews and technical evaluations.
- Support verification and validation of mechanical systems.
- Assist in resolving technical issues throughout the product lifecycle.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare engineering documentation including:
- Design packages
- Engineering procedures
- Technical specifications
- Engineering reports
- Ensure designs comply with government, military, and industry standards.
- Support configuration management and engineering change activities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with electrical, systems, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.
- Provide technical leadership on mechanical engineering projects when required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with mechanical packaging design for electronic systems.
- Proficiency using CAD software such as:
- Creo
- Other 3D/2D mechanical design tools
- Experience with engineering analysis software such as:
- ANSYS
- Thermal analysis tools
- CFD software
- Structural analysis tools
- Knowledge of shock and vibration analysis.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and technical accuracy.
Preferred:
- Experience with high-pressure applications and sealing technologies.
- Experience designing small form factor, high-power electromechanical systems.
- Experience supporting defense, aerospace, naval, or undersea systems.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.
- Knowledge of military, government, and industry engineering standards.
- Experience with prototype fabrication, validation, and environmental testing.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
