What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL Teacher position at Approach International Student Center?
As a Faculty member of the Approach team, you will play a vital role in achieving our mission by delivering tailored, engaging instruction to our diverse international student body. You will bring your subject expertise to life through thoughtful lesson design, meaningful student relationships, and a genuine commitment to creating life-changing learning experiences. Scope of Responsibility
INSTRUCTION & STUDENT SUCCESS
- Plan and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with curriculum objectives and Approach brand standards
- Leverage AI tools for lesson planning, material creation, and instructional design — following Approach's voice, tone, and academic standards
- Assess student progress regularly through tests, quizzes, and assignments; provide timely, constructive feedback
- Foster an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive classroom environment that encourages active participation
- Support students in adjusting to American academic and cultural life; provide guidance on academic, personal, and professional development
- Review student resumes, cover letters, and college/university applications; write reference letters when appropriate
- Uphold all school policies including confidentiality, safety, and professional conduct standards
COMMUNITY, COLLABORATION & GROWTH
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of student attendance, performance, and progress; submit reports as required
- Collaborate with fellow faculty and administrative staff to continuously improve curriculum and the student experience
- Participate in professional development sessions, internal PD, staff meetings, and assigned online training — open to incorporating feedback
- Chaperone academic activities and Approach Adventures as assigned
- Actively participate in school community events: international lunches, graduation parties, seasonal celebrations, and campus life initiatives
- Contribute to a high-performance, mission-driven team culture — model resilience, flexibility, and care in every interaction
- Stay current on best practices in instruction, technology, and student engagement
WHAT YOU'LL BRING - THE PERSON
- Bachelor’s degree plus one year of teaching experience, or a
- Bachelor’s degree plus certification to teach the related content containing a practicum component.
- Anthropic AI (Claude) certification
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Proactivity, flexibility, adaptability and caring professionalism.
- Organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Analytical thinking, Interpersonal and leadership skills and a positive growth mindset.
- Understanding of the unique cultural and communicative needs of an international student audience.
- Technology skills: Google Workspace (Gmail, Chat, Meet, Calendar, Drive for storage; Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Keep for notes, Sites for collaboration), Canva.
