Position overview
The Appraiser will be responsible for conducting valuations for artworks and collections on behalf of Appraisal Bureau's clients. Working within a technology-enabled workflow, the role focuses on valuation analysis, market research, and valuation support across a high volume of assignments.
This role is ideal for a credentialed appraiser with deep expertise in Post-War and Contemporary Art who is excited by the opportunity to work within a fast-growing, technology-forward organization.
The successful candidate will manage a substantial volume of appraisal assignments while maintaining the highest standards of research, analysis, and USPAP compliance. Responsibilities
- Conduct fair market value and retail replacement value appraisals
- Research market comparables, auction records, gallery pricing, and relevant market activity
- Utilize Appraisal Bureau's proprietary software platform to manage assignments and valuation workflows
- Evaluate incoming client records, supporting documentation, and collection data
- Determine and support valuation conclusions in accordance with USPAP standards
- Maintain current knowledge of Post-War and Contemporary Art markets, artists, valuation methodologies, and market trends
- Collaborate with colleagues across appraisal, operations, and technology teams to improve appraisal processes and workflows
- Contribute expertise toward the continued development of technology and data tools supporting the appraisal process
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and turnaround expectations
Required qualifications
- 5 years of professional appraisal experience focused on Post-War and Contemporary Art
- Member in good standing of a recognized appraisal organization
- Current USPAP compliance and continuing education requirements
- Strong knowledge of auction markets, gallery markets, and valuation methodologies
- Exceptional research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage a high volume of appraisal assignments in a fast-paced environment
Preferred qualifications
- Accredited Member (AAA), Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), or Accredited/Certified Member (ISA)
- Experience conducting valuations for insurance, estate planning, charitable donations, financial reporting, and lending purposes
- Comfort working within technology-enabled appraisal workflows
