Purchasing Specialist
Position Summary
ATS is seeking an experienced Purchasing Specialist to support our manufacturing operations by managing purchasing, inventory control, and receiving activities essential to production efficiency. This position is responsible for purchasing materials and services, maintaining accurate inventory records, and working closely with Production, Engineering and Sales to ensure materials are available when needed.
The successful candidate is a detail-oriented, dependable professional who takes ownership of purchasing and inventory activities and understands how accurate inventory and timely procurement directly impact manufacturing operations. The ability to communicate effectively, solve supplier and inventory issues, and work collaboratively with multiple departments is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage purchasing activities for materials and services, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement.
- Obtain and evaluate vendor quotations and assist with vendor negotiations and sourcing activities.
- Develop and maintain strong, productive vendor relationships.
- Expedite purchase orders and follow up on back orders, delivery schedules, and supplier issues to prevent production delays.
- Manage changes to orders, including scope changes and revised material requirements.
- Apply established purchasing practices and procedures to ensure efficient procurement.
- Monitor material availability and maintain awareness of Work in Progress, physical inventory, and on-hand inventory balances.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Sales and Production Manager to forecast material requirements and plan for upcoming projects.
- Read and interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs) and pull inventory components required for production orders.
- Perform accurate and timely inventory cycle counts and investigate discrepancies.
- Support the receiving process by verifying quantities, updating inventory/Visual counts, and ensuring received materials are properly identified and placed in designated locations.
- Analyze inventory and purchasing data to identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, quality, availability, and cost.
- Identify sourcing opportunities that improve quality and reduce costs.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal departments to resolve issues and maintain production schedules.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of purchasing practices, procedures, and inventory control processes.
- Ability to read and understand Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with vendors and cross-functional internal teams.
- Experience with inventory cycle counting and receiving processes.
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
