About the Role ASE is seeking a highly motivated Application and Technical Support Engineer to join our team in Campbell, CA. Reporting directly to the DER Operations Team Lead, this individual contributor will take ownership of customer projects involving ASE’s DER Gateways, DER Aggregators, and DER Control products.
In this dynamic role, you will be the technical bridge between our customers and our internal teams (Product Management, Project Delivery, and Engineering). You will be responsible for understanding customer requirements, coordinating projects, and providing hands-on engineering and commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Coordination: Manage DER Gateway, Controller, and DER Aggregator projects from inception to Utility Interconnection.
- Project Engineering: Handle the engineering and configuration of DER Gateways and Controllers.
- Testing & Validation: Conduct product testing, validation, and SCADA pre-testing within ASE Labs, customer labs, or directly on-site.
- Commissioning Support: Provide on-site commissioning support and assist with Utility SCADA testing for PTO (Permission to Operate) and Interconnection.
- Sales & Application Support: Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams to provide application engineering support, helping customers navigate project and utility requirements.
Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Education: Associate degree or higher required. (Note: We highly encourage fresh undergraduate Electrical Engineers to apply!)
- We prefer 3 years in the DER/Renewable industry, but we are willing to train the right entry-level candidate.
Technical Expertise:
- Engineering and site commissioning experience with PV (Solar) / BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) projects.
- Hands-on experience with Inverters, Gateways, Storage, Power Control Systems, or Energy Management Systems.
- Strong understanding of communication protocols and traffic analysis (Wireshark required).
- Familiarity with DER / IEEE 1547 Protocols (DNP3, SunSpec Modbus, IEEE 2030.5) using RS232/485, Ethernet, or Cellular communication is a major plus.
- Experience with Utility Communication or Automation (SCADA, RTU, Test Sets, Protection Relay Protocols, Telecom) is highly advantageous.
Soft Skills: Self-driven, capable of independently managing projects, and equipped with excellent written and oral English communication and customer management skills.
