The Individual
At a professional level, we are seeking an individual with a minimum of fifteen years of experience, at least half of which should have involved direct managerial experience. This individual must have a demonstrable track record of success managing multi-disciplinary product development teams through the full life-cycle of product development. This track record should include developing disruptive power electronics products and taking those products from conception through the testing cycle to manufacturing and market success. The individual should have a track record of building/growing teams and recruiting world-class engineering talent.
At a personal level, this candidate must be a strong leader and manager, as well as having an orientation toward hands-on execution. This individual must possess an inspiring level of passion and energy for their work as these characteristics will foster the positive, can-do culture of Company. It is expected that this individual will provide both technical discipline and thought leadership to the company in the area of product and process development and quality/reliability. This individual will need to be in possession of a high level of self-motivation, coupled with a strong work ethic and the desire to build and grow an organization. It is imperative that this individual be in possession of a highly evolved set of communication skills, which will facilitate effective communication with the rest of the senior management team as well as various external constituencies.
The Position
Reporting to the General Manager, this role will be responsible for defining and leading all day-to-day aspects of the Dearborn operations including product development, product management, manufacturing execution and supply chain development. The VP of Ops will work closely with the GM to define the strategy and culture that delivers long term sustained value to the company. The General Manager will be the operations owner for long range production internal and external (outsourced) solutions that match the product and market demands. The Director of Ops will be expected to identify external partners and champion the development and implementation of all production plans and budgets required to complete its mission. The Director of Ops will play an active role in engineering, product definition, supply chain, manufacturing and operations, to ensure that the company produces world-class, quality products at the right price. The Director of Ops will need to understand and articulate the technology and market potential of the company.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
· Proactively lead efforts to continually improve product cost, product quality and product delivery
· Actively ensure a culture of safety
· Direct, manage, coach and mentor a highly skilled staff.
· Staff headcount of manufacturing engineers, maintenance, materials, administrative, and supervision to meet quality, delivery and cost targets
· Hire, terminate, influence people movement
· Encourage and support innovation, creativity and continuous improvement concepts, plans, and initiatives.
· Ensure that responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities of direct subordinates are defined and understood.
· Lead change management efforts, model effective change management principles
· Assess subordinates needs, review job descriptions, develop goals and complete performance reviews, coach, train, and lead. Audit performance to targets.
· Review wages, salaries, development and training programs.
· Delegate portions of management activities to staff.
· Ensure the practice of Due Diligence regarding Health & Safety, Environmental, and Business Practices. Audit and implement corrective actions.
· Balance the day-to-day business while driving the organization toward manufacturing excellence
· Identify appropriate interventions and countermeasures to meet Division and Corporate objectives
· Drive and implement continuous production flow and continuous productivity improvement initiatives.
· Establish policies and programs to ensure a trained, competent and motivated work force.
· Participate in key performance indicator reviews.
· Drive initiatives through Policy Deployment.
· Ensure the practice of Due Diligence regarding Health & Safety, Environmental and business practices.
Operations Planning
· Direct and coordinate the plant to produce assigned products within the constraints of organization directives and policies.
· Assess resources, expenses, and capital budget requirements.
· Develop strategies for plant layout and configuration to successfully rollout New Product Introductions (NPI’s), rationalization of existing products, and maximize efficiency and inventory turns.
· Provide guidance to multi-functional NPI teams to ensure timeliness of the product rollout and production start-up.
· Focus on Key Manufacturing Objectives. Track and review indicators for Production, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Safety etc. on the Weekly Pulse Review.
· Review TQM target Performance Monthly. Meet and follow quality initiatives as required.
· Provide immediate attention and follow-up to customer complaints
· Develop annual operating budgets, monitor on-going intervention, take countermeasures when necessary
· Establish annual capital equipment plan that will address production and facilities needs to drive increased productivity and support planned production goals.
· Determine manpower, machine requirements, follow Kanban schedules
· Meet budget and cost objectives
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related technical degree) from an accredited institution required; MBA or other graduate degree in a relevant discipline is beneficial.

· P&L Experience
· Improving Performance Experience in a small operation
