Summary: Responsible for loading programs and tooling and setting up and operating all bending equipment with a high level of technical knowledge and proficiency by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Sets up work area for efficient processing and maximum throughput of jobs.*

2. Loads programs, tooling, and takes any other steps necessary to set up assigned jobs.*

3. Ensures that parts are quickly formed, counted, and stacked in the best possible fashion for the following operation.*

4. Ensures that parts are quickly delivered to the following operation.*

5. Ensures that parts are correct according to the print and/or traveler.*

6. Monitors machine operation and quality of parts and makes machine adjustments as necessary.*

7. Reads, understands, and implements all information and instructions included on job travelers and technical drawings.*

8. Responsible for the proper completion of all manufacturing and inspection documentation as required by company policies.*

9. Identifies visual and dimensional defects and ensures that potential problems are effectively communicated to your department lead or supervisor.*

10. Creates new first run and/or prototype programs quickly and effectively with an absolute minimum of scrap and/or set up parts.*

11. Participates in developing new, efficient, and effective welding processes for new as well as existing product lines.

12. Contributes to any team with which you are working to ensure consistent product and cooperative communication.

13. Identifies and/or cooperates with potential opportunities for efficiency/productivity increases, and cost reduction strategies.

14. Responsible for absolute compliance with safety and PPE requirements.

15. Maintains a clean and organized work area.

16. Strives to assume the company’s commitments as your own and fulfills them with a sense of pride and urgency.

17. Performs other duties as requested by your supervisor.

Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of date entry software and the intranet.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Equipment:

· Forklift

· Overhead crane

· Hand tools

· Power tools

· Caliper

· Measuring tape and other measuring devices

· Protractor

· Height gauge

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

· High level understanding of current brake componentry, tooling, and interface software and has the ability to operate all in-house machinery at an advanced level

· High level understanding of the safety limitations of brake tooling and common safety concerns of press brakes in general

· High level understanding of commonly used sheet metal alloys and their properties as relative to performing and bending

· Oral and written communication skills

· Ability to work with others in a team oriented environment

· Ability to focus and stay productive without direct supervision

· Ability to perform beyond the minimum job requirements and expectations

· Ability to operate deburring and other equipment for extended periods of time

· Ability to take ownership of your decisions and take responsibility for their outcome

· Ability to travel when required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Press Brake Technician Levels

  • Level 1
  • Consistently produce components at or above quality standards
  • Consistently apply advanced working knowledge of press brake equipment & programming software to ensure minimal machine downtime
  • Maintain the minimum level of productivity & ensure that the equipment is not sitting idle
  • Stay productive and focused without immediate supervision
  • Actively support and participate in all officially sanctioned endeavors
  • Openly communicate and share information with all interdepartmental personnel
  • Actively maintain a clean and orderly work environment
  • Understand and properly employ all appropriate Personal Protection Equipment
  • Level 2

Level 2 includes all requirements in Level 1 and the following additions:

  • Assume responsibility for departmental performance & recommend/implement improvement suggestions & solutions
  • Reliably exceed the minimum acceptable level of productivity
  • Performing initial set-ups on both repeat production and first-run/prototype jobs with a minimum in wasted time or materials
  • Demonstrate an understanding that encompasses several of the processes required to produce any single component
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of machinery/programming that allows for appropriate manipulation of machine parameters resulting in the safest, most efficient and productive operation possible
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt processing methods to unanticipated changes in incoming product quality in order ensure consistent results
  • Demonstrated reliability of attendance and follow-through
  • Demonstrated openness to new ideas, and active participation in the success of new projects and initiatives
  • Consistently put forth the extra efforts required to ensure company success
  • Reliably demonstrate above-average communication skills with other departments as well as your own
  • Consistently demonstrate an open and positive level of communication while at, or representing ALT
  • Willingly work in other departments as requested
  • Level 3

Level 3 includes all requirements in Level 2 and the following additions:

  • Demonstrated ability to continually improve on both a productive and personal level
  • Reliably set the bar for productivity standards/requirements within the dept.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and adapt sustainable processing guidelines for new projects
  • Demonstrated desire to suggest, implement, and maintain efficiency and cost-saving improvement plans
  • Consistently demonstrate a level of communication that improves departmental cohesiveness & positively impacts related departments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of processing techniques beyond what is commonly used in-house, and the ability to successfully apply that knowledge to new & existing projects in a manner that elevates company capabilities

Pay: $20.50 - $26.00 per hour
